The reporting stressed that the research was "associational" and therefore couldn't tell us why. Huh? 1/
Ugh. Not good reporting about unrefereed preprints. Sabrina Tavernese at NYT says two studies were "published," one of which was "published in the National Bureau of Economic Research" (not a journal) the other is on SSRN (not identified).

I guess the real issue here is that we're clinging to stories about heroic individuality long, *long* after that ceased to be an apt way to think about most intellectual work.
