🧵 MTV2 launched 30 years ago today. The spinoff was conceived as an all-music-video counterpart to MTV, which had shifted toward broader entertainment programming. It was aimed at a slightly more mature audience ("perhaps 23 years old, instead of 21," as MTV Networks' president put it at the time).

Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy have been performing the LP with a killer band this year, most recently at Newport Folk over the weekend.
