Fail we may, sail me must. Face like a dad.

Cool Machine by Colson Whitehead The final book in Whitehead’s Harlem trilogy featuring the further adventures of Carney and Pepper. The whole series is brilliant, but Cool Machine is maybe the best of the three. Also a good companion to Heather Ann Thompson’s (non-fic) Fear and Fury. #BookSky

Spending my Saturday drafting legislation to change how people drive in multi-storeys. Ie, if you have a queue of people following you, it is not acceptable to hold them all up while you tiptoe your Range Rover into the one space on Level 4, while there are clearly loads of spaces on higher levels.

Working ‘in town’ so walked to Kings Cross. Route took me past the British Museum, through Russell Square Gardens, past the Brunswick, past the British Library. Do that on the right sort of evening/morning and you’d be forgiven for thinking there wasn’t much wrong with London/Britain/the world.

Reminds of a friendly we played at Wednesday. The waves of our fans as we go into the ground, realising: “oh aye, you can drink in England!” then all coming away from the little caravan selling Heineken with four bottles in each hand. They ran out about 20 minutes into the first half.

Andy Burnham has signalled he may lift the ban on drinking alcohol in the stands at football matches, suggesting it is ‘unfair’ for fans to be singled out when it is permitted for other sports. Story: @pippacrerar.bsky.social and @tomjgarry.bsky.social

What was the Leadmill. Last time I was here, it was to see Mercury Rev when they were touring Yerself Is Steam. The lead singer - the troubled one - got hoyed out for fighting with the lad on the t-shirt stand.
