If you like Widow’s Bay and you want something to read between seasons, I recommend my folk horror novel The Ocean Hugs Hard. Something sinister lurks amid the dunes and cottages: a string of murders, a secret cult, and a history the locals don’t talk about. #books Purchase links in comments

If you’ve had a teacher in your life who left a positive impact or opened the world of possibilities to you in any way, please let them know. Life is short and our old teachers won’t be around forever.

Writers are powerful beings. You choose what stories to tell, you choose how, you function on a creative wave few mortals understand. There’s pain. There’s loneliness. But there’s also a sense that your words are powerful convictions. #5amwritersclub

As the world collapses and society unraveles like a mothballed sweater, I can now say that I received five years of positive feedback from my students. Every semester they’ve enjoyed my teaching style, even the ones who hated English and writing said they liked my class. Yay teaching! #teaching

Okay, writers! Let’s do this! *screaming myself awake* *consulting hastily-scribbled notes* *brewing mug of wakey bean juice* *slapping imagination in the face with a dead haddock* *mining all that repressed trauma* *primal screaming in front of open Word doc* #5amwritersclub

What’s the point of writing anymore? If some mediocrity craps out an AI-generated novel and sells it, what’s the point of sacrificing time and energy improving your writing through discipline and skill? When the AI slop sells better than a novel that took the writer time to write, why bother?

Write what you want even if others aren’t reading it. The void taunts you like your worst schoolyard bully. Most of the time you’ll fight for relevance in a world that doesn’t want your stories. And this indifference gnaws at your soul. #5amwritersclub

Your holy grail as a writer is reaching readers and leaving a lasting impression. Make them feel something and remember you. That’s the high I’m chasing, my impossible quest for relevance, the North Star guiding me to the keyboard. Just show up and write. #5amwritersclub
