This summer, Scripps Research welcomed a record number of interns, with more than 100 students joining labs across the institute. 🔬🌟 Through programs including REACH, SURF and SRTI internships, they gained hands-on research experience, mentorship, workshops and scientific seminars.
During the first weeks of pregnancy, individual placental cells merge, forming a barrier that ferries oxygen and nutrients to the fetus while keeping the mother’s immune system at bay. Scientists at Scripps Research identified galectin-3 as a key player in this transformation.
