🌊New paper🐚 Seabed status varied strongly across Europe: the Black, Baltic, and Aegean–Levantine Seas generally showed high seabed community status, while the Western, Central, Ionian and Adriatic Mediterranean were most severely impacted by bottom trawling. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

🌊What does it take to assess and protect 2.2 million km² of seabed—an area equivalent to half the land surface of the EU? For the past 7 years, our Working Group on Fisheries Benthic Impact and Trade-offs #WGFBIT has been hard at work finding out! Nearly there! www.ices.dk/community/gr...

I really enjoyed the meeting. Working together solving science problems in a mix of presentations, analysis and critique really speeds up the process.
Sometimes we also smile at #WGFBIT, mostly after the statiscal models are complete 💪 thanks to IFREMER and the FBIT team for such an enjoyable and productive week. Lots of progress on developing quality thresholds for GES / good status assessments
We've been discussing our Europe wide trawl impact assessment today at wgfbit, with his progress on the analysis for the paper. Muddy seabed is most heavily impacted across the regions.
Feeling the buzz from experts here at IFREMER in Nantes, France. What’s in it for them? Experts value being able to focus for a whole week on working and developing ideas around a common meaningful theme with peers from various fields of science/policy. More on WGFBIT: www.ices.dk/community/gr...
Started my train journey to Nantes to chair the @icesmarine.bsky.social working group FBIT. I'm looking forward to creating and seeing the outputs of EU wide trawl impact assessment.
This coming week in Nantes, France working with a cross-disciplinary group of experts - including benthic ecology, marine habitat mapping, fisheries gear technology, and policy and management. WGFBIT www.ices.dk/community/gr...
How do we know how the seafloor is doing? Where is it healthy or degraded to the state that it's not functioning? How do we improve it in places where it's not good? Here is what you need to know as a manager when choosing an set of indicator: esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....
I've been at Greenland Institute of Natural Resources in Nuuk this week working on applying the ICES WGFBIT trawling impact assessment method to Greenland waters. It has been productive (and also an amazing country to visit).
