Do-raku in Dartmouth is really good, some say the best sushi in NS. The Chef ist japanese.
The Heritage Museum of Dartmouth, located in the former house of local folklorist Helen Creighton needs wider recognition. The place is incredibly rich about local history, the Halifax explosion in Dartmouth, folklore and local arts. Got a book from Creighton and a contemporary folklorist
Let's brunch in a small coffee where everything is locally sourced.
To help relieve work stress, don't answer emails on the weekend. Also on weekdays after 5 PM turn off your email. On Mondays, don't log into your email until after noon. Before logging in on Tuesday burn your computer and erase your identity. By Wednesday morning gather supplies and escape into the
Point Pleasant Park - Halifax View on open ocean, the industrial harbour and some of the defense system from the British in 18th century and later refurbished during WW2
Trident book coffee : they sell used books, they sell coffees and cakes, and you can just sit and read. Light jazz on the stereo. Nice decor. Great way to start the weekend
Today's buy : bunch of salt water taffy from a shack at the harbour front and a thriller set in Halifax and Lunenburg, by an Irish author. Bought at Carrefour Atlantic Emporium, a place selling only books about the Maritimes: history, fiction, natural sciences, essay. A true treasure cove.
You can kill a French vampire with a baguette. It's a painstaking process but it works.
Lunenburg is absolutely beautiful, a World Heritage site founded in the 17th and 18th century, with the help of German settlers at the demand of the British crown.
Being near the sea and in a place with a small Japanese community is a clear bonus
Tayaki 52 is a nice and cozy place for japanese-korean fusion. The Sandwich Tayaki is super fluffy. Matcha is good they can make it unsweetened.
More pictures of the city, also some of the painting of the Mural festival 2025
The Atlantic Maritime Museum focuses on the Mi'kmak and their relationship to nature and the importance of water, the large explosion of Halifax in 1917 and the Titanic, in addition to more general Maritime topic. Definitely worth a couple of hours and quite instructive on the history of the city.
