Clear-eyed look at food devastation in Turkish life, including lack of access to nutritious food, including not only meat, but also fruits and vegetables, and pesticide contamination. Particularly damming, given Turkey’s great agricultural potential.

Extraordinary figures for a G20 economy. "87.3 percent [of children] are unable to eat meat, chicken, or fish every day...39.5 percent of the Turkish population below 18 years of age are at risk of poverty."

#Turkey is accelerating its use of facial recognition to detain and prosecute protesters - often with little or no evidence. I’ve been investigating how #AI is contributing to the erosion of the rule of law & supercharging authoritarianism 🧵 newlinesmag.com/spotlight/tu... @newlinesmag.bsky.social

Turkey’s AI-Powered Protest Crackdown

Documents show that Ankara is expanding facial recognition policing while circumventing legal safeguards, charging demonstrators with little to no proof of wrongdoing

Why did Grok suddenly start talking about “white genocide in South Africa” even if asked about baseball or cute dogs? Because someone at Musk’s xAi deliberately did this, and we only found out because they were clumsy. My piece on the real dangers of AI. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/05/17/o...

Drama over at X/xAI. Whatever you ask Grok, it pivots to “white genocide” in South Africa. The last panel is what Grok claims was a “verbatim” system prompt that caused the behavior. Jury out. It’s now fixed but they haven’t yet bothered explaining. This, not those AGI fantastical scenarios.

Wild stuff. The memo purports to authorize "a line officer, or any other available officer" to decide who is an "Alien Enemy," subject only to supervisor review. It does not require court approval for anything.

The Justice Dept. has authorized law enforcement officers to GO INTO PEOPLE'S HOMES WITHOUT SEARCH WARRANTS if they suspect that someone is an "alien enemy" I talked to @usatoday.com about Attorney General Bondi's "Guidance for Implementing the Alien Enemies Act," links below
