Last week was our uni's staff awards and I was really honoured to be Highly Commended for both my teaching and also my work on Campus Accessibility. The celebration was rather undercut though, by the stage not being accessible to me, which is particularly ironic given one of the awards I received!

There will always be debates about which is the best reference manager to use. But the major advantage of @zotero.org is that it makes me subconsciously hum the My Neighbour Totoro theme, which is makes any citation more fun
Wonderful to see continued support from staff and students for @hwucu.bsky.social's 5th day of strike action. Our menagerie of picket animals is growing by the day!
Why yes, that is my shoulder featured on BBC News. Will happily autograph any shoulder pads upon request.
Yet another fantastic turnout at @hwucu.bsky.social's final day of action for this first week of strikes. Incredibly grateful for all the #UCU members and staff who showed up as well as significant numbers of student supporters for the third day running!
Another absolutely incredible showing on @hwucu.bsky.social's picket line today! We fell one short of yesterday's 60 people in our daily photo but 59 people + 1 dinosaur is perhaps even better! 🦖
Absolutely fantastic to see such a massive turnout for @hwucu.bsky.social's first day of strike action. An excellent showing from our members (and lots of messages of support from those striking from home!) and a wonderful number of supporters too!
As of tomorrow, members of @hwucu.bsky.social will be on strike to protect jobs and hold our employer to account on their destructive plans. (1/11)
Immensely proud of the team at @hwucu.bsky.social who have delivered a ballot turnout of 70%!
Today is a very good day. My partner has returned from Chicago with a very cute #AstroBot figurine and a few hours after that my new AstroBot controller arrived!
Today we discovered that our #corgi - a breed that has been honed over countless generations to herd cows - is allergic to cattle. We have many questions, including - but not limited to - when did he meet a cow!?
Research can often feel pretty gruelling so it's a nice change when something works and your output literally gives you two thumbs up! (yes, it's technically more like "two thumbs to the side" but the wrists are constrained to be at the bottom so this is as good as I can hope for!)
It is so telling that a Prime Minister that has directly quoted Enoch Powell, decimated trans rights and threatened the vital support provided to disabled people only cares about "hate speech" when defending genocidal war criminals
Was just, *perhaps*, a little less than polite to the person at my door canvassing for Labour for our local by-election. Would feel worse if the list of horrific things that party has done in the past couple of months wasn't so long and anathemas
Very pleased to have been elected as Vice President for @hwucu.bsky.social. Massive thanks to @josstified.bsky.social who has just finished her role as branch President after an exemplary two years.
It turns out that Love isn't all you need when you're halfway through a Lego set that isn't built from the bottom up.
Today marks my last full day as Equalities Officer for @hwucu.bsky.social pending our AGM tomorrow. Can't say the last two years have been a universal joy but they have certainly been a privilege, being able to represent our members on such important topics.
Somewhat mindboggling that people are sharing a video by Boris Johnson, supporting Israel, as if he is a paragon of moral virtue we should all be turning to for answers
Here's wishing everyone a very angry and empowered #prideMonth. Pride is, and always has been, a protest and there must be zero tolerance for performative and hypocritical signs of so called 'support' when there are such aggressive and unconscionable threats to our rights #prideIsAProtest
I was stuck on a problem in my research for about a week and then realised the solution in the shower. Have I... become a scientist!?
In a turn of events that literally no one could have seen coming, it turns out that attacking trans rights actually scuppers progress for women's and LGB rights in Scotland. What were the chances!?
14 months ago, as Equalities Officer for our #UCU branch, I raised concerns about the misuse of these essential accessible parking spaces. After an extremely protracted battle, permanent signage has been added and a commitment made to enforce blue badges
In a sea of appalling political weakness, it is very welcome to see that the cowardly attempts to silence @maggiechapman.bsky.social's principled and strong response have failed
Today marks 500 days left of my #PhD (funding). Which feels like both an enormous way to go but also no time at all!
No matter what the #SupremeCourt rule tomorrow - trans women are unequivocally women today and will still unequivocally be women tomorrow. The only thing liable to change - for those of us on the right side of history - may be the urgent need to double down on our support for our trans siblings.
I am so utterly appalled at the way our union is acting as an employer. It undermines everything that we do with our own employers. Full solidarity to all those on strike - please know the actions and stance of our union is not representative of its members.
Why do we strike? We’ll let our members give you some reasons why.
I told some students today that lambda expressions in Java are "a relatively new thing" before I realised I should probably correct myself to say "are a thing that wasn't around when I was an undergrad". I just checked - they were introduced in 2014 🤦🏻♂️ #feelingVeryOld
Not sure it's fair of the BBC to label John McDonnell as far left
