If people were okay with letting the Vice President of the United States be assassinated by the president’s followers, letting an innocent man go to jail does seem like a big deal.

They couldn’t conceive that what they perceived as an inferior race could ever win, so they didn’t prepare, didn’t try to understand their enemy’s culture, and so were defeated.
