Back in 2005, 30 of our 6TD seismometers were shipped off to the Torfajökull region of Iceland. The aim of the deployment was to understand the persistent small scale seismicity in the region and gain a better understanding of the low frequency seismicity. #SeismicSaturdays

Back in May 2006, 31 of our 6TD seismometers were deployed across Norway and Sweden. While Sweden's uplift can be explained through crustal thickness, Norway may have required additional flexural strength of the crust or a dynamic response to the Iceland Plume. #SeismicSaturdays

Between 2012-2013, 70 of our broadband seismometers were deployed across North Anatolia to investigate the crustal structures along the fault zones. Across the region, 1371 earthquakes were located along the north and south branches of the fault. #SeismicSaturdays

Thank you everyone for playing our game. The answer was C. In March 2023, a fighter jet created a sonic boom over Northamptonshire that was heard across several counties. The sonic boom was picked up by our sensors, as well as others seismometers across several counties. #SeismicSaturdays

It's not just earthquakes our seismometers pick up, they can also detect the weather! On Thursday morning a large lightning storm hit Leicester, with the thunder being picked up on our seismometers, showing as peaks in the seismogram. #SeismicSaturdays

During the 2018-2019 Antarctic summer season, several of our instruments were used to monitor icequakes and the glacial-bed interface. The data demonstrated a more complex interface than originally assumed, allowing for better constraints on ice-dynamics models. #SeismicSaturdays

Back in 2012, our geophones were used to measure the vibration levels of trains on different embankment setups. The research discovered that track cuttings generate higher amplitude vibrations compared to raised embankments or at-grade track sections. #SeismicSaturdays

As part of the ARGOS Project in 2012, 12 of our seismometers were deployed to the Aluto Volcano in Ethiopia. The seismic data was used to understand fluid pathways beneath the volcano. The results will aid in the exploration of geothermal energy for the country. #SeismicSaturdays

In Dec 2022, after seismicity and uplift in the Fernandina volcano, 7 of our seismometers were deployed to the Galapagos. Seismicity and satellite data demonstrated increased earthquake freq. with surface uplift, consistent with magma movement of shallow events. #SeismicSaturdays

Next up on our equipment showcase, we have the Trillium Horizon and Centaur from Nanometrics! The Trillium Horizon paired with the Centaur creates a low noise system excellent for local, regional, and teleseismic studies. #SeismicSaturdays

At SEIS-UK we have 23 6TD's available for loan with 16GB of integrated storage. These small rugged integrated units are great for quick deployment in the field, and are ideal for small local seismicity studies or tomography. #SeismicSaturdays

To kick off 2026, we thought we'd show the variety of equipment we have available for loan in SEIS-UK. This is the start of a series we'll be doing over the coming weeks to showcase our equipment as well as the research the community has conducted. # SeismicSaturdays

On Wednesday 3rd December at 23:23:34 (UTC), a M3.2 earthquake occurred in Silverdale, Lancashire (UK). The earthquake was felt in towns and villages within 25 km from the epicentre. The earthquake could also be seen on our Seismometers in SEIS_UK, with clear P and S wave arrivals. #SeismicSaturdays

In 2017, 10 of our seismometers were deployed across the Afar region of Ethiopia. A swarm of ~1000 earthquakes occurred along a ~15 km fault system. Subsequent receiver functions showed crustal thinning from ~38 km to 14 km, as a result of continental breakup. #SeismicSaturdays
