I am happy to share that New York State has eliminated fees for more than 7,500 SUNY Graduate Student Workers. I supported substantial investments for SUNY operations in our State Budget to make this possible.

I visited Jennie F. Snapp Middle School to drop off supplies collected during my Teacher Supply Drive. I loved getting a chance to meet the incredible individuals who work to support our children.

My staff joined Racker for its Day in the Park event in Ithaca, which was a great opportunity to connect with constituents and organizations and enjoy live music. Thank you to Racker for all of the work they do every single day to support people with disabilities in the Southern Tier.

My staff attended the ribbon cutting for Patsy’s Pizzeria in Ithaca. This business is widely credited with inventing the New York slice, and now they're providing their iconic offerings right here in Ithaca.

The New York State Majority worked hard this budget season to prioritize funding for local arts and programs that support community recreation, like NY SWIMS, NY PLAYS, and NY Kicks.

I visited Ithaca Care Collective’s West Village Community Drop-In childcare center. This unique childcare center operates on a mutual aid model where caregivers and neighbors support one another through shared resources, volunteering, and community building.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. The most recent available data from Broome, Cortland, and Tompkins counties suggests that there were over 50 overdose-related deaths in 2024, though this number has decreased in recent years due to hard work from community advocates.

I visited Cincinnatus to drop off school supplies that I collected throughout my Teacher Supply Drive. Teachers are the backbone of our public education system, they support our children and they deserve our support in return. I always look forward to dropping these supplies off.

This morning, I delivered $150,000 to the Addiction Center of Broome County to help them with the construction of a new building. ACBC’s dedication to addressing not only substance abuse, but health inequalities at all levels, is truly admirable.

As August comes to a close, I'm continuing to highlight Black-Owned businesses throughout Senate District 52. Theo's Savory Sauces is a minority- and woman-owned small business based in Binghamton. Their sauces are vegan, keto-friendly, gluten free, and have been shipped worldwide.

I joined SUNY Chancellor Dr. John King at SUNY Cortland and visited Fitzgerald Hall, learned more about the Cortland Cupboard’s work addressing food insecurity, and highlighted SUNY’s College Essentials Starter Kit Program.

I was proud to stand today with @sengonzalezny.bsky.social and @amannakelles.bsky.social to encourage Governor Hochul to sign the Responsible Data Center Development Act. New Yorkers utility bills are already too high, and the addition of corporate-backed data centers is one we simply cannot afford.

This afternoon I attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Adult Learner and Reconnect Center at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) with TC3 President Kremenek and SUNY Chancellor King.

The budget we passed earlier this year supports food access in our neighborhoods. Healthy food is essential for community well-being, and I am proud of the work we did to prioritize these important programs.

I attended a ribbon cutting for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County's new commercial kitchen facility. They've been able to triple the size of their kitchen, which will greatly increase the number of small businesses they can support.

I had the pleasure of celebrating a true Binghamton institution as Little Venice Restaurant marks its 80th anniversary. I presented a proclamation recognizing this incredible milestone and the generations of people who have helped make it such a beloved part of our community.

Today is National Women's Equality Day. Celebrated annually on August 26, this day commemorates the adoption of the 19th Amendment and the ongoing fight for true equality.

Today, we’re celebrating an important step forward for Dryden Lake. @amannakelles.bsky.social and I held a press conference with representatives from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the Village of Dryden to announce that the DEC has finalized plans to replace Dryden Lake Dam.

Our budget creates programs to help our local farmers, who provide support for our neighbors and keep our communities healthy and fed.

My staff joined Mayor Christina Charuk and community members in Johnson City for the Ukrainian Independence Day flag raising. August 24, 2026, marks the 35th Anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, celebrating the enduring aspirations of its people to live in peace and liberty.

This week, I'm highlighting simple luxuries, a black-owned business based in Binghamton, NY. This boutique was founded by three young entrepreneurs and I continue to be amazed at the work they do.

This year's budget protects our communities, strengthens victim services, and invests in smart public safety solutions.
