Today I took a day off from Fringe, and went on a agriculture tour of Westlock County. Let me take you with me! First, we visited the ranch of cow-calf farmer Mike Hittinger, who is also the board chair of the Gateway Research Organization. He is an early adopter of regenerative grazing techniques.
Saw this extraordinary little show this afternoon, as my Fringe kick-off. A fantastical, allegorical delight. A magical way to start my #yegfringe season. Bodes well for the week ahead!

Senator Paula Simons 🇨🇦@senatorpaulasimons.bsky.social · 12mo agoI don’t have a recipe so it’s a bit different every time. First I parboil scrubbed, unpeeled beets with garlic cloves and peppercorns. I then let the beets cool, and rub the peels off. I drain and reserve the stock.
Oh this is such a shame. The festival is closing down for the rest of the day. The real concern seems to be the safety of the tents. If the pavilions blow down while volunteers are cooking, it could get really dangerous. #yeg #yegwx

I got back down to Hawrelak Park at noon to finish up my Heritage Festival judging duties, but they have temporarily closed the pavilions because of a severe wind warning. Such a shame, because the rain has stopped and the sun is (fitfully) shining. #yeg #yegwx

The festival opens Saturday at noon, but I’m in Hawrelak tonight for the kick off reception in the Heritage Amphitheatre.
