Today I took a day off from Fringe, and went on a agriculture tour of Westlock County. Let me take you with me! First, we visited the ranch of cow-calf farmer Mike Hittinger, who is also the board chair of the Gateway Research Organization. He is an early adopter of regenerative grazing techniques.

Rancher Mike Hittinger, in blue jeans, blue button down shirt and a brown baseball cap chats with Jon Kramer, mayor of the town of Westlock, wearing a light denim shirt, dark jeans and aviator sun glasses, in front of a rich green grazing paddock.

Just stumbled through an interview in French with Radio-Canada on the recent rash of copper wire thefts, and the Senate’s own study on the problem. Had to learn a whole new vocabulary overnight. My apologies to francophones in Alberta who woke up to hear me bumble along. I just give ‘er…

The Heritage Festival entertainment judging is over - and I’ll announce the winners as soon as I’m allowed. But meantime, I’m back in the park “freelance” - catching shows that other judges marked on Saturday. It is cool but sunny, and the park is pulsing! Here’s Croatia.

Senator Todd Lewis was a proud farmer and champion of Canadian agriculture. He was strong and thoughtful advocate for Saskatchewan and the prairie west and a genuine mensch. A fine Senator and a fine man. May his memory be for a blessing to all who mourn his loss. #cdnpoli #Saskatchewan

The Edmonton Heritage Festival has long been major source of canned/packaged food donations to the Edmonton Food Bank. But I was speaking with Food Bank bosses last night, and this year they are asking people NOT to bring food items to Hawrelak Park. Cash donations still gratefully accepted. Why?..

An Edmonton summer math problem. Paula has a meeting 7 blocks from her house at 5:15 PM. Construction in her neighbourhood means it’s probably faster to walk than to drive. The sun is shining now. But there is a 60% chance of a severe thunderstorm by 6:30 PM when her event ends. What to do? #yeg

A screen capture of an Environment Canada hourly Edmonton forecast. A A very apocalyptic severe thunderstorm warning.
