My Intro Phil students voted Kant as their least favourite philosopher so far in the course. I can't believe I am the only prof in North America who cannot indoctrinate their students!
Latest poll has Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro tied. It takes hours to vote in Toronto but at least I'll be deciding the election.
Tempted to reply to some emails from students requesting letters by saying "Good to hear from you; I mean, from the chatbot you seconded for that purpose
Incredibly sad election results in Brazil. Flavio Bolsonaro did not win, but he is the front-runner for the runoff. And Bolsonarismo had huge wins both in Congress and in state races. Brazilian democracy survived four years of Bolsonaro and a coup attempt, but this will be a more serious challenge.

I had to unsubscribe to NDPR because it was bombarding me with reviews (there were about 45 news one that came in within a one hour period). Is this just me or were other people experiencing the same thing?

In small gestures, would donate to a reputable kickstarter to help the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario restore the mid-century stained glass window through which bullets were shot on Yom Kippur. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
I feel like this has the potential to make all the anti-AI and all the anti-Wittgenstein crowd happy, and this is basically 100% of the philosophy population.
Even the emails Provost Schnell wrote explaining his use of AI were AI written. I feel ashamed that I am composing this post wthout any AI help: www.thedartmouth.com/article/2026...
Op-eds, academic articles by Provost Santiago Schnell flagged as ‘AI-written’ by ‘near-zero error’ AI detector Pangram
Schnell said he used artificial intelligence for “making writing processes more efficient,” but that AI was not a “substitute” for his own “intellectual judgment or authorship.”

Relieved to learn that Bari Weiss's rag is safe from Trump's attacks on the first amendment.
To show my confidence that the robots will not destroy us, I am willing to bet anything under any odds that human beings will not be extinct within five years.
I feel like there should be an expat competition to see which country has the most Kafkaesque consular bureaucracy. I would be very surprised if anyone can beat the Brazilians...
First bullying FIFA to get their player back in the match, and now Ghent to get their racist back in academia
If you volunteered for a soul crushing activity in the expectation that no one will want you to do it, is your obligation less stringent if you end up being asked to do it? Please note that arguments for "yes" would be significantly more interesting as the case for "no" is pretty obvious.
Moving interview with Avishai Margalit, my beloved undergraduate teacher. I don't only still remember listening to his lectures in awe as a youngster, but the feeling seems to be still there in my mind. www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

People make fun of Chris Alexander's Barbaric Cultural Practices call centre, but imagine how many cappuccinos in the afternoon could have been prevented it the tip line had been implemented.
Also great to see that you can always count on Piers Morgan insightful commentary no matter what the subject matter is.
Nice of England to give up on the game after the first goal so I could keep my perfect 0/17,834 record.
Reasons for Argentina to be optimistic tomorrow: 3. VAR 2. Messi 1. I'm picking England to win

The fact that the World Cup always end up having only one champion is a major argument against the effectiveness of prayer.
Between Brazil's loss and FIFA just taking orders from Trump, this might be the most depressing day in the history of World Cup. Oh, except for something that happened in 2014 that I barely remembered.
If Argentina had any sense of sportsmanship they would at least take Messi out of the game.
With all this excitement about the World Cup, let's not forget to shed a tear for my cousin who lost today at Wimbledon. But I still think the future holds great things for Fonseca
Power failure during the world cup is the kind of thing that should land a politician in the Hague.
Such a major effort of the will to root against France in this World Cup.
