The Impact of the Year is a category in #ESFLAwards, for which our students nominate other volunteers whose work inspired them. 🏆 The 2026’s recipient of the Impact of the Year award is Mario Spoltore, for his work on reforming healthcare policy and saving lives in his country and beyond.

Building a freer future requires large-scale collaboration, but also the great movers and shakers who get things going. With the Leader of the Year category in the #ESFLawards, we celebrate such individuals. Our 2026’s Leader of the Year is David Briguglio Brown, our National Coordinator for Malta.

Last year, our volunteers across 42 countries hosted events, wrote articles, and ran campaigns with real-world impact. One team did all of that and more, all the while defying an increasingly authoritarian regime. 🏆 For this exceptional work, team Georgia is our 2026’s Group of the Year!

Last year, our volunteers around Europe hosted 583 events. From all of them, one stood out in the #ESFLawards through its scope and impact. 🏆 The 2026 Event of the Year is the World Without Borders Conference hosted by our Polish team in Krakow last autumn.

In the #ESFLawards, we celebrate those who excel at spreading good ideas through the written word with our Writer of the Year award. 🏆 This year, our Writer of the Year is Ian Golan.

Hundreds of new volunteers join our programs in now over 40 European countries each year. In the annual #ESFLAwards, we appreciate the new students and chapters who stood out the most. 🏆 Our Newcomer of the Year for 2026 is Students for Liberty Romania 🇷🇴.

John Locke was born on this day in 1632. 🥳 His work was foundational for the notion of individual rights, and government by the consent of the governed, and limited by the purpose of safeguarding these basic rights.

🔝 Our annual Top Leadership Retreat took place last week in Serbia. Our most accomplished volunteers from 27 countries came together for four days of intensive trainings, all to become even more capable of succeeding in advancing the ideas of liberty.

In the early hours of today, a Russian missile landed in Poland. Just a few days before, Romanian jets were shooting down Russian drones. As the hybrid threats facing the NATO bloc begin to turn into physical ones, our volunteers around Europe are taking the developing situation seriously.

This week, our students from Denmark, Slovakia, Czechia, and Poland are representing at the IES Europe summer seminar in France. 😊

Most people would actually benefit from reforms toward a smaller government, yet are still against them. This was one of the challenges that Bryan Caplan outlined for the pro-liberty movement during our panel on Radical Visions for Liberty at LibertyCon Madrid earlier this year.
