Stay Away From The Holiday Displays 🎃Featured Story🎃

#Horror #Creepypasta #Halloween #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black  It was October of 2009, and my freshman year of high school. That year was special because Halloween fell on a Saturday. I always loathed that it didn't guarantee us a day off from school. Look at what Columbus did to the natives, and yet somehow that holiday is federal, but not Halloween.

A Very Unfortunate HOA Halloween

#Creepypasta #Halloween #ShadowBoxArchives #Horror Written By: Rosé Black It was Halloween night, and two opposing sides had found themselves becoming unlikely allies. It was the Domestic Animal Surveillance and Security (DASS) and the HOA (Homeowners’ Association). While DASS did their best to make sure all residential pets could roam around comfortably leashed and enjoy themselves, the HOA would fine their owners for so much as even starting to lift their legs or back up to a fire hydrant.

Thirstday 10/22/26

#Horror #WritingPrompt #Thirstday #ShadowBoxArchives As we near October's conclusion, I think it's fitting that these prompts reflect Halloween's spirit. Like usual, the rules will be included in the image below. Once you are familiar with them, you can get started on this week's prompt which is: "Something strange happened on Halloween."

The Ying-yang of Halloween and Christmas (The Solution to Holiday Creep)

#Horror #Christmas #Halloween #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black  Halloween and Christmas displays at Home Depot The images above are from my trip to Home Depot on October 18, 2026. As you can tell, there's already more Xmas stuff out here than Halloween stuff. Christmas decorations getting put up in stores too early is nothing new. I remember seeing Christmas trees in a store in August when I was in elementary school.

The Beasts On Halloween

#Horror #Writing #Halloween #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black October, that time of the year when orange, red, and yellow leaves flutter off the trees, when pumpkins mean dominating flavor profiles for the next several months, and Jack-o’-lanterns sit at every porch and store entrance. It’s the perfect time to scare yourself with some horror films or, in my case, horror books.

Another List Of Horror Creators!

#Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black A yellow skull with the words "Creature Features" in its mouth. Happy mid-September, everyone. As some of you may know, a year ago, I posted a list of horror creator recommendations, and I’ve decided to create another, because they got me through a tough period from about early to mid-July to early August.

Considering The Veil

#Horror #Folklore #ShadowBoxArchives #GhostStories Written By: Artemis Quinn “Stories make us more alive, more human, more courageous, more loving.” ~ Madeleine L’Engle Author’s Note: First posted on Substack in June. The center of all storytelling is a purpose, right? Sometimes, the source of the story comes from joy. Others, it comes from a fundamental need to understand something. Sometimes, stories are told to make sense of a tragedy that would otherwise break the community it comes from.

Thirstday 10/15/26

#Writing #Horror #WritingPrompt #ShadowBoxArchives We are already halfway through October. It's a shame how fast the holidays tend to go by, so we should do what we can to enjoy them and beyond. With that said, perhaps you can make a Halloween story out of this week's prompt, courtesy of Cryptid Muse. It is: "And for a brief moment, I saw them too."

Creepypastas And NoSleep Tales (Explained By Rosé)

#Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black Okay, in fairness, there isn’t a heated debate amongst the internet horror community about this topic, but I have seen enough confusion for me to feel that the record needs to be set straight. Who better to do that than yours truly? I’ll begin by explaining what Creepypastas are to me personally. Then, from there, I’ll elaborate on why this is the case.

Breaking The Hierarchy (Domestication)

#Horror #Writing #Nonfiction #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black Cover for Domestication Shannon Knight The majority of my horror, I prefer to delve into the realm of the supernatural because it adds a layer of wonder to the threats lurking in the dark. That said, I’m not opposed to a story in that genre that decides to exclude this attribute. Sometimes, what’s to be feared isn’t the unknown.

Bring Her Back (First Impressions)

#Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black Originally posted to Horror Facts- June 5, 2025 For my thirtieth birthday, I decided to treat myself to a visit to the movies. I was deciding between Thunderbolts and Bring Her Back. Judging by what I titled this article, it should be easy to guess which I picked, and let me say that the MCU is back!

The Meaning Of Meadowbrook

#Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black The cover for Welcome to Meadowbrook by Cassandra L. Thompson. It depicts what appears to be an old abandoned facility of some kind, giving off serious Victorian vibes. The following will contain spoilers for “Welcome To Meadowbrook” by Cassandra L. Thompson. I will try to keep them to a minimum. For my spoiler-free review, check the book’s Barnes & Noble…

Mockumentary Matchup: Lake Mungo VS The Fourth Kind

Lake Mungo Poster (Left) and The Fourth Kind Poster (Right) #Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black I’ve been on a mockumentary horror kick recently. I haven’t seen that many as of writing this. Aside from the ones I’ll be talking about here, the only other one I can think of that I’ve watched is Blair Witch. For those unfamiliar with the subgenre, it’s fiction depicted in a documentary style, hence the mock in mockumentary.

Why Halloween Deserves To Become A Day Off

#Halloween #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black A painting of some jack-o'-lanterns I found online It’s the end of October. Trick-or-treaters will be out and about soon. There are bars and parties to hit, or maybe, if you’re not into that, you can celebrate at home by watching some Halloween specials. There’s just one problem. It’s a work day.

The Lessons Of Rod Serling And The Twilight Zone

#Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black Rod Serling Recently, from about mid-July to early August, I binged all episodes of the original Twilight Zone. Initially, this article was going to be about seeing how the versions that came after it stack up. While that may be a future article, I have too much on my plate to squeeze in two entire series.

Thirstday 10/01/26

#Horror #Thirstday #WritingPrompt #ShadowBoxArchives Welcome to the first Thirstday of October! Normally, we wait until late in the afternoon to share these posts, but since it's 8:00 AM for me and I will likely be waking up sometime around 4:00 PM, I decided: "Fuck it. Let's put it up now." Fitting with this month, this week's prompt is kind of specific.

Horror Creators List 3 (Oops All Authors)

#Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Created By: Rosé Black Do you know what I have been doing a lot lately? Reading a ton of indie horror. Seriously, I have up to 59 reviews on Goodreads, so I figured, why not make another list? Again, I'll keep this to ten people, and I won't be including names from my previous lists. This won't be in any particular order either.

Rosé’s Horror Narrator Recommendations

#Horror #Nonfiction #Writing #ShadowBoxArchives Created By: Rosé Black Okay, SBA, I need to come up with an article. What better way to reach that minimum word count than with lists? Something I love to do every Halloween season is listening to Creepypasta narrations. I used to do this with a couple of certain larger channels. However, after certain controversies involving them, I have since been giving my time to smaller or more middle-of-the-road channels.

What Happens On Halloween Comes Back Around

#Horror #Creepypasta #Halloween #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black What’s your favorite part of Halloween? Perhaps it’s the pumpkin carving or hayrides. Maybe it’s the decorations or those classic movies or TV specials. I know! It’s the treats, right? I won’t deny that I used to enjoy them - candy apples, Snickers, Reese’s, Sour Skittles. Just never those weird circus peanuts or black licorice (shudders).

Vlad Masters Character Analysis (A Danny Phantom Retrospective)

#Horror #Writing #Nonfiction #ShadowBoxArchives Written By: Rosé Black  The title card for the Danny Phantom episode "Bitter Reunions" I know I have been on another nonfiction kick lately, but I'm in that kind of mood. Besides, given the issues going on in certain spaces, I think this character doesn't get talked about enough. I'll admit it's been a few years since I binged Danny Phantom (mandatory spoiler warning here).

I recalled a lot of characters' names and the plot points of certain episodes.

Skinamarink: A Child’s Perspective On Horror

Skinamarink's Poster #Horror #Writing #NonFiction #ShadowBoxArchives I tend to go on a bit of an analog horror binge during this time of year. Usually, I stick with a series on YouTube, but I happened to see this movie in a Film Theory thumbnail and figured I would give my two cents. Now I know this movie has been out for months and people have talked about it.
