started The Furrows by Namwali Serpell, and realizing the repeated line, "I don't want to tell you what happened. I want to tell you how it felt" is exactly how you have to experience it.

I've made a grave error. Took a gummy while hanging around my mom and 2 of my siblings, etc (sharing a beach house until tomorrow morning). I'm on Day 3, and this is when things go south.

Got my brother to pick up this Claire Gleeson novel (and The Amusements & Boys Don't Cry) when he was in Dublin a few weeks ago. Had a hard time finding these here. Knocked back the first 90 pages of this one today.

My hand holding a paperback novel with an orange background. The title is in White lettering: Show me where it hurts. The image is of a woman with a bob taken from behind. She is cupping her face w/ her left hand as her right is folded across her left leg. She is looking out a window. The interior is shadowed, sunny and green outside the window.

I'll just add one thing--the final story in Daanje's book is the best fictional reckoning with the concept of quantum reality that I have ever read. Even better than the attempts by Cormac McCarthy and Benjamín Labatut (both of whom also gave it a Gothic sensibility, interestingly).

Anjet Daanje's "The Remembered Soldier" was one of my books of 2025 and I think her newest, "The Song of Stork and Dromedary," is even better. It's a teeming, detail-rich galaxy of stories orbiting the lives and myths of a fictional version of the Brontës. Extraordinary. www.wsj.com/arts-culture...

Having a gin (The Botanist) and tonic (fever tree/ Mediterranean) with lemon, 6 juniper berries,& a rosemary sprig. Cannot recommend enough. Best version of my favorite. (I know i posted something similar in June, but this is important).

The drink i just mentioned shown in a purple cocktail glass i got a set of at an antique store.
