That guy who was @shayman on that other thing; former musical dictator, Argonotes, the Until Recently Toronto Argonauts Band of the #CFL. Recently retired from that big fruit company. Photo above is the launch of Apollo XI. (I have a better camera now.)
Got roped into a family game of Settlers Of Catan and I immediately assumed the role of Confused Guy.
Update: entered and exited Lake Huron, the Greatest Lake.
Listen, Freedom Mobile A) You're wrong, I am not in the United States of America. I'm still 20 miles inside Canada. B) Stop being so cheerful about it.
The Beer Store no longer stocks the most refreshing summertime beverage, Radlers. "We only have beer now". OK but a Radler is beer, plus grapefruit juice. "We just have things that are all beer." OK but you also have some abomination called 'Coors Seltzer Slushies'. "we just have beer now" grrrr
I wanted to write something about how much I enjoy "What Is a Jeopardy! Podcast"and how it's not only the one podcast I listen to thoroughly, it's also the only one I pay for - but this week's news that @johncullen.bsky.social is stepping away makes me genuinely sad. Also grateful for the fun.
with respect to Nancy and Ernie Bushmiller, it's hard to see how the lady taking off her hat would improve Nancy's sightlines unless, perhaps, the movie is being projected on the ceiling. mastodon.social/@nancycomics/...
As I've said before: What high-paying long-term jobs do they pretend exist here? A data center isn't a place where execs come and do Big Deals. Go to the server room at your workplace; are there lots of rich people in there spending money?
Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."
Here, at last, is the summary of The Odyssey that I wish I'd read before seeing the movie. Makes much more sense now. Thank you, Dave Barry.

Worst cruise ever.

Saw The Odyssey tonight in a glorious non-IMAX non-70mm at-least-I-Could-get-a-ticket screening. Capsule review: Watching this, and doing homework on who everybody is and what exactly was going on, is probably good practice for being on "Jeopardy!" some day.
Glad I could help! Coincidentally, yesterday I donated a CARDIAC (Cardboard Illustrative Aid to Computation) to the computer museum at the University of Waterloo. Gradually getting my office cleaned out (by removing the tiniest things which are not really the problem) oldbytes.space/@gloriouscow/
Helping to judge a student app showcase today. One team is showing an app and I think hey, that looks good, I could use that. At the moment later, the presenter says, "we think this app would be good for your grandparents."
Son and daughter-in-law are just back from Greece. Naturally, I asked him what they say of the Acropolis where the Parthenon is. And strangely, he just stared blankly at me. What do you mean, you don't know?

People are actually scalping tickets to see "The Odyssey" in IMAX 70mm (as Nolan intended.)There are only two theaters in the Toronto area with one of those projectors; tickets are sold out for weeks, unless you wanna sit in the front row. Hmm. Worth waiting or should I see it at a regular theater?
Ding dong! Guy with clipboard at door. "I'll keep it brief, we are doing attic insulation nearby at <waves vaguely in direction down the street>." Me: Sure, let's keep it brief. We don't have an attic. Guy at door: oh. OK.
So, what do we all think — the Gordie Howe Bridge is scheduled to open to traffic tomorrow. Will Trump find some last-minute reason not to allow it?
Hmm. Interesting approach. Cheap single-use attach-to-your-ear radios that, I guess, the team gives away as a promotional item. (I'd rather use my own phone and airpods of course.) www.livesportsradio.com/products
Many years ago at Michigan Stadium we could get some single ear radios that had real-time home team radio. Lasted like two years before it vanished. I think this was the co: www.livesportsradio.com
Erdős talked about "The Book", where God keeps only the most elegant and beautiful proofs of each mathematical theorem. I doubt that the current spate of AI-generated proofs are Book-worthy. Not yet anyway. mathstodon.xyz/@tao/116987866...
This is an absolute master class in how not to tell a joke on stage. The setup ("All joking aside.") The timing. The laughing at your own material when the audience is silent. The desperate follow-through trying to explain why it's funny. They should show this in presentation skills training.
AWKWARD! Trump’s Adult Joke FLOPS; WHCA Crowd Refuses To Laugh: ‘MAKE LOVE TO ME…?’ | WATCH
President Donald Trump found himself in an awkward moment at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner after a joke about a senator and his wife was met with near-total silence. The president recounted a story in which a senator receives a text from his wife asking him to "come up the stairs and make love," only for the senator to reply, "I can't do both." When the punchline failed to land, Trump paused to explain the joke to the audience, saying, "In other words, can't go up the stairs and make love." He later poked fun at the lack of laughter, joking that it was "the only thing I thought was good" in the speech, adding that it "went down with not exactly great laughter." Listening to Argos games via the radio stream isn't great if you're at the game - the audio will lag the live action by 15-30 seconds, long enough to be annoying. Has any team figured out how to do a no-delay radio broadcast to fans in the stands? Zoom call with speakerphone in the booth, hmm....
Hey, how about that. Happy to have participated by complaining.
Federal government grounds Billy Bishop airport expansion
The just-concluded public survey suggested strong public opposition to the project, according to a federal government official.

Are you like me? Did you carefully memorize the IP address of a DNS server decades ago? Something you'd ping or traceroute or lookup in a pinch? (No, memorizing an easy one like "8.8.8.8" doesn't count.) Just checked today and I can't reach good old 129.79.254.191 any more. I am sad.
I'm sure the people running these mailing lists don't believe it.
"Zonules of Zinn." Hmmm. I have those? Before today I would have assumed that was a Star Wars villain.
I'm at the eye clinic. Eyes dilated. Things a little blurry. If everybody could use bigger fonts for the next little while I'd be much obliged.

I'm a tiny bit amused that among other things, the US has singled out Canadian hockey sticks as something upon which to slap a 50% tariff. No doubt the think tank coming up with these absurd policies named the only Canadian product they could think of.
Hurricane season is coming, so we demand the USA do something to keep those annoying storms from crossing the border into Canada. Get out there and manage your oceans properly.
