And i think that veil came off around the time the other societal performances started to come off. The undercurrent of hate has been there if you listen to the objects of that hate. But society is so conditioned to accept it that only the most egregious examples are seen as a problem.
And i am not in anyway saying this is new. If there is a difference, it's in the phrasing not the feeling. The begging music from my era was still misogynistic. It just had a softer performance. Not calling women bitches didn't mean we actually valued or respected them. We just performed it.
That R&B article is interesting to me. Partially because r&b presents as "love songs" and the way we "love" in a society steeped in misogyny is something i have been thinking/talking about recently with my friends. I don't know how they write love songs to people they don't value.
