This is reductive nonsense. Many of the ethical issues with AI have to do with theft (the data it was trained on to make it capable of doing what one might consider interesting) and the lack of insight into how it might be making you vulnerable.

It's interesting that "slop" can be used to refer to projects that are fun/interesting/etc such that it's considered *unfortunate* that they were vibe-coded, like food is delicious *but* it's not certified GMO-free or vegan or gluten-free

Thinking a lot today about a video of ChatGPT 5.6 trying to beat a chess grandmaster, except each time it lost it got to replace one of its pawns with a Queen in the next game. The GM played black until every pawn was a Queen (at this point, there’s a forced mate in 1 for white).

One of my writers, I’m pretty sure, is responsible for about 90% of my mental exhaustion. I have spent literal days trying to edit a set of six very similar pages from them that, frankly, should have taken at most a few hours. But every time I have to verify something unclear, I expose more issues.

I don’t skip cinematics, but I play with subtitles. Often, I’ll have read the subtitle before the actor has finished delivering the line, and having the option to push them forward to the next one helps me follow the story. In doing it in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

This strikes particularly close to home. I had a conversation the other week with a colleague in India who manages a team of writers I edit. She confirmed that most of the team is using genAI because they think it can write better than them. Are there fewer typos? Sure. But the content is vapid.

I’m sure we’ve all heard the claim that AI “democratizes knowledge” at some point. A coworker I spoke to yesterday, though, made a great point: How is enabling you to have a computer do things “democratizing knowledge” when you have no idea how the computer accomplished that?

Side note, though, why are their proposed name changes always the most generic, banal option possible? I get that they don’t value the humanities, but the lack of creativity and taste is fucking staggering.

I’m sorry that both of you struggle with the expectation that advocacy take more effort than creating a binary and slicing off one side of it.

I may have made this AI-related rant here before, but it’s worth repeating. The crux of good writing is getting your intent out of your head and onto the page. One of the things a good editor does is help you figure out where your brain was filling in gaps, and so you missed the mark on conveyance.

Oh. This is the kind of take he has. As someone who l, by dint of career, HAS to edit content that has been at least partially AI generated, the toll even moderate AI use takes on the quality of said writing wholly justifies outright dismissal.

Alright folks, we need to talk. I'm seeing excessive Pangram policing in my feed again, usually as "for my friends, everything—but for my enemies, AI detection." So, let's just have a simple rule: You are only allowed to dismiss someone's writing if it's 100% AI. Nothing less.

I’m convinced anyone choosing to sign this is either a white supremacist or, like Cofnas, enamored with the “positive” attributes ascribed to them through “race realism.” Cofnas earnestly believes that the “Ashkenazi Jews are smart” stereotype is a bulwark against antisemitism.

This weird collapsing of the political ideology of a group (they have one issue on which they are MASSIVELY out of step, and so all of their positions that aren’t massively out of step are just a facade) is a thought-terminating exercise. It’s a way to make oneself feel okay about dehumanizing them.

Okay, so here's the real question: Given the Hollow Knight games star bugs, do we assume all that stuff happens at a, by human standards, small scale? If so, I might survive just by scaling out of the local ecosystem.

I finally saw Nolan’s Odyssey, & everything Emily Wilson said was correct, especially the weirdness of an Odyssey without gods. But imo, the lack of “pagan” gods is really only one example of the broader Christian ethos that has been layered onto the Odyssey for this movie. 1/10

While driving my partner to work this morning, I saw a small dog run out into the middle of the road. Despite the glare from driving directly into the sun, I managed to spot it and stop before I hit it. We were sitting there, stopped, and looked over to the sidewalk the dog had run from.

The flu vaccine would like a few thousand words. Additionally, most diseases for which we have vaccines don’t mutate and develop new strains as quickly as COVID does. It’s not that the vaccine “reduces symptoms,” that’s just a nice bonus. It targets immunity for specific strains.

The SARS-CoV-2 vaccine is unlike other vaccines. It is more like a therapeutic. Therapeutics reduce symptoms. Other vaccines traditionally provide decades of sterilizing immunity, if not for a lifetime. This means when someone is vaccinated, they can’t become infected.

Each time one of these “leopards eating faces” stories comes up, I am inevitably disappointed that no one asks the obvious, if uncomfortable, question: You didn’t care if this happened to others, why should they care that it’s happened to you? Mind, I do care. I just want these fuckers’ rationale.

I once got into a Twitter spat with Rod Liddle during which he asked me if I'd ever read anything and I said I'd start with his obituary but I was lying. I will not be reading it, he isn't worth the time.

If there’s one thing I think the current big YouTube personality AI foofaraw reveals, I think it’s that even people who stake their professional reputations on accuracy are willing to accept mediocre results if it means increased production capacity. Unfettered capitalism is a cancer.

In addition to being ignorant of the vast amount of genetic study that’s been done on specifically Ashkenazi Jews (I literally had a genetics teacher in high school who told me we’re “fascinating,” which I’m sure she didn’t think sounded off), this just perpetuates the concept of blood quantum.
