as a tax for sadposting i will say that lately i've been spending hours & hours digitally inking a piece that is 100% pure, unadulterated weird self-indulgence & more ambitious than anything personal i've drawn in an age. i don't know when i'll be able to show it. but it exists!
my willingness & ability to "keep up" with social media as an artist has taken a HUGE hit this year & it's amazing how instantly & directly that translates into fewer sales & fewer jobs. i really don't know how to deal with the fact that it feels like poison
For a little while I was making these dudes (I called them sneefters), but they kept breaking or falling over in the kiln. Maybe sometime I'll try some more that are sitting like the strawberry & crying ones
birthday art for @radishforest.bsky.social - Laszlo from our ongoing collaborative story project of almost 13 years. the character himself is now 23 in actual years?? (in-story he is 35, but my first drawing of him was in 2003 🤯) time is crazy & we're getting old 🖤
at this point the "if you just had a huge emotional response to some new information online, stop & investigate the facts before you spread it" rule is something we all need to actively be supporting each other in following. shit is dire
i actually watched this video after seeing hundreds of death threats against this woman inspired by this post. THIS IS NOT WHAT SHE SAID, AT ALL. she is speaking business language directly to business people, who she knows only care about money. she is arguing - in that language! - for reduction
How much will you pay for a lung full of air? Lindsay Hooper, CEO of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, declared that water, soil and oxygen should not be "infinitely accessible" to the public. She called them "natural capital" that global elites must put on "the balance sheet."
question for other freelance illustrators - would publishing work you’ve done for past clients in, say, an illustrator anthology book or a magazine feature on you, count as “promotional use” i.e. not an infringement on client publishing rights? is the etiquette just to ask permission first?
okay it's important to recognize when you're full of shit. i've been daydreaming about making sculptures that look like esoteric devices with unknown supernatural functions. they'd just be art but OF COURSE PEOPLE THINK I'M A WITCH
unfortunately i am also starting to feel like i need to wear a disclaimer or something when i table with my art so that i won't have to keep having awkward conversations with folks who assume i'm a neopagan or a ceremonial occultist (?!) does this happen to other people? is it just me?
one of my goals this year was to table at 2+ markets, since for the past few years i've only ever been making it to the one i co-organize. so far i've done 3 (with a 4th later this month)! it's a real boost being able to SEE the response to my work & talk with folks directly
my next scheduled art/craft market is literally called the Fat Dyke Market & i am unbelievably hype about it. gotta see how much fat queer art i can make in the next ~2 weeks though
i am (partially) descended from some of these actual historical women & so i am obviously already seated for this
You know, just the other day I was a thinkin’ ‘you know maybe the golden age is wrapping up, what a hell of a run.” Fuck me if the golden age wasn’t reloading for another volley bloody-disgusting.com/movie/395165... First Look at Historical Folk Horror ‘King’s Daughters’ from ‘Red Rooms’ Director
choose your fighter (tooth realism vs. crystal optimism) hand-sculpted frames with hand-drawn text, for a local market this weekend. i'll have the crystal hopefuls in multiple sizes but there's only the one tooth frame so far!
30+ year old refrigerator that came with the house finally got diagnosed as terminal & now we are contending with the fact that a) the kitchen was built around this thing & nothing comes in these dimensions anymore & b) they really "don't make 'em like they used to" in terms of quality 😕

Dont think too hard. Top ten songs of all time for you
a little roundup of my growing collection of non-Judaica stickers (well, knife granny can go either way) - featuring the new key sheet & holo DIY/anti-AI text collage! very excited about stickers at the moment
finally managed to finish an illustration for a concept i've been iterating on for actual years (there are physical versions of some of these! you'll get to see them later) - this will be a 5x7 print 🗝️
hmmmm okay maybe i'll just try to do something more fun/unusual with my buttons! i know i get pretty excited about OOAK collaged buttons or ones with dried pressed plants inside...
friends who sell at zinefests, cons, etc. - is it your experience that folks just don't buy pin-back buttons anymore? i.e. the kind you make with a button machine at home? these used to be a solid seller for me & in recent years they barely move. did enamel pins kill them?
feeling very emotional about the almost-70-year-old woman who RAN up to me in the grocery store today because of my shirt (a pink triangle ACT UP repro from Adam's Nest). turns out she was a social worker in Brooklyn in the 80s, went to the marches, owns an original 😭
phoning my representatives today mostly for the catharsis of calling them spineless, complicit cowards who should, along with the rest of the Democratic party, put their actual bodies on the line in order to shut this shit down
another #transdayofvisibility bump. this is the absolute bottom line. you don't have to like me, you don't even have to understand me, but you do have to recognize that you have no right to control what i do with my body & you have no ability to control how i define or relate to it 🔥
THORN PANSY, 2022. self-determination is a fundamental right & no "legal" attack on it can be allowed to stand. no excuses, no apologies.
i'm never sure how i feel about "visibility" for myself as an agender trans person who's most often read as "fat dyke" (in my experience this is a real separate category from "woman" w/r/t how you're treated) & who is not on HRT or planning any surgery. people DO clock me as "some kind of trans"
#transdayofvisibility repost 🖤
THE ALCHEMIST'S REWARD it's important to me to say that this is for trans folks, but it's not ONLY for us. it's about the courage & magic of physical/medical transition but it's not ONLY about that kind of transition. it's yours if you know it is (if you want it)
tdov is fine and all, but i prefer buying trans women pizza. celebrate today by being a weird freak. push the bounds of what is possible and build the world you want in the present. make that zine, go have that messy hookup. being visible is boring, be more
