as a tax for sadposting i will say that lately i've been spending hours & hours digitally inking a piece that is 100% pure, unadulterated weird self-indulgence & more ambitious than anything personal i've drawn in an age. i don't know when i'll be able to show it. but it exists!

my willingness & ability to "keep up" with social media as an artist has taken a HUGE hit this year & it's amazing how instantly & directly that translates into fewer sales & fewer jobs. i really don't know how to deal with the fact that it feels like poison

For a little while I was making these dudes (I called them sneefters), but they kept breaking or falling over in the kiln. Maybe sometime I'll try some more that are sitting like the strawberry & crying ones

question for other freelance illustrators - would publishing work you’ve done for past clients in, say, an illustrator anthology book or a magazine feature on you, count as “promotional use” i.e. not an infringement on client publishing rights? is the etiquette just to ask permission first?

okay it's important to recognize when you're full of shit. i've been daydreaming about making sculptures that look like esoteric devices with unknown supernatural functions. they'd just be art but OF COURSE PEOPLE THINK I'M A WITCH

unfortunately i am also starting to feel like i need to wear a disclaimer or something when i table with my art so that i won't have to keep having awkward conversations with folks who assume i'm a neopagan or a ceremonial occultist (?!) does this happen to other people? is it just me?

one of my goals this year was to table at 2+ markets, since for the past few years i've only ever been making it to the one i co-organize. so far i've done 3 (with a 4th later this month)! it's a real boost being able to SEE the response to my work & talk with folks directly

finally managed to finish an illustration for a concept i've been iterating on for actual years (there are physical versions of some of these! you'll get to see them later) - this will be a 5x7 print 🗝️

hmmmm okay maybe i'll just try to do something more fun/unusual with my buttons! i know i get pretty excited about OOAK collaged buttons or ones with dried pressed plants inside...

friends who sell at zinefests, cons, etc. - is it your experience that folks just don't buy pin-back buttons anymore? i.e. the kind you make with a button machine at home? these used to be a solid seller for me & in recent years they barely move. did enamel pins kill them?

feeling very emotional about the almost-70-year-old woman who RAN up to me in the grocery store today because of my shirt (a pink triangle ACT UP repro from Adam's Nest). turns out she was a social worker in Brooklyn in the 80s, went to the marches, owns an original 😭

phoning my representatives today mostly for the catharsis of calling them spineless, complicit cowards who should, along with the rest of the Democratic party, put their actual bodies on the line in order to shut this shit down

THORN PANSY, 2022. self-determination is a fundamental right & no "legal" attack on it can be allowed to stand. no excuses, no apologies.

i'm never sure how i feel about "visibility" for myself as an agender trans person who's most often read as "fat dyke" (in my experience this is a real separate category from "woman" w/r/t how you're treated) & who is not on HRT or planning any surgery. people DO clock me as "some kind of trans"
