Just a short drive from home, Fairburn Tower is a rare survival from the Scottish Renaissance. Situated in beautiful Highland landscape, it was built around 1545 for Murdo Mackenzie, a favourite at the rich court of King James V and Mary of Guise. #lovewhereyoulive

It’s a beautiful day in the Scottish Highlands. With the first flush of Spring, life is bursting forth in my local woodland. The first wood anemones (Anemone nemorosa) coming into flower. As one of the first flowers to bloom they’re a vital source of food to emerging flies & bees.

Pretty star shaped flowers, white petals with a light yellow centre & green foliage. Set against tall trees & a bright blue sky.

A picture taken from a summit in the Cairngorms shows the scale of ongoing wildfires in the Carrbridge and Dava areas of the Scottish Highlands. Several fires started on Saturday by humans “wild camping”, setting campfires and leaving bbq’s behind.

Plumes of smoke depicting fires that are servers miles wide.
