Filled out a survey for UK authors and illustrators, about AI Licensing and Remuneration. My personal take on this was that there's no combination of money or terms, that would make me want to license my work to train Gen AI. Generative AI is based on plagiarism. It is trained by exploiting workers in the Global South. It is environmentally destructive. It replicates stereotypes, bigotry and other oppressive attitudes. It is highly inaccurate. It is psychologically damaging for those who use it, via encouraging dependency, the development of AI psychosis, or by leading to the erosion of existing skills. It is a way of overturning creative labour markets to cynically enrich tech bros. There is not ethical use of it. No amount of financial compensation makes it worth engaging with.
