What is the problem with the average agency? To win large NHS contracts, many massive corporate agencies offer unsustainably low prices. When profit is prioritised over quality, it forces frontline interpreter rates down and leaves vital bookings unfilled.
What does best practice actually look like? Good communication is not a luxury. It is an absolute requirement for safe, accessible healthcare.
Why are we named in the Locked Out Report? Well, when the government's BSL Advisory Board investigated why the healthcare system is failing Deaf people, they named a certain Liverpool Co-operative as the solution.
Government reports, healthcare research, and Deaf people's real experiences all point to the same systemic failures. Across the UK, too many people are still arriving at critical medical appointments only to find no interpreter was booked, or that the support provided doesn't meet their needs.

For many Deaf people, anxiety around a medical appointment starts the moment they walk through the clinic doors. The reception area can be a highly stressful environment, especially if a patient is left constantly on edge trying to guess when their name will be called.
