We should lay these factors for the pervasive disregard of what should be easily understandable — the consciousness of the child in the womb and the effects of prebirth experience on life and personality — alongside Mott’s explanation.

Devolutional Model of Consciousness Development

Finally, Francis Mott made the postulation that our original expanded capacity to feel is diminished, as he says, “divided,” by experience not increased by it. The idea is that there is a reduction in awareness as a result of early traumatic events, beginning around conception and then on, and not the buildup of consciousness and feeling that we assume from the mechanistic paradigm that sees consciousness as a byproduct of increasing physical, specifically brain, activity during our early years.

This, incidentally, is almost exactly the position I came up with, independently of and unaware of Mott’s work, and which I published in my book Falls from Grace: The Devolution and Revolution of Consciousness (2014).

Being spaceships, UFOs are obviously womb symbols. Carl Jung once speculated in writing that the upsurge of UFO sightings indicated a rising urge for psychic unity in humans. While this is true on one level, on a deeper level, they are symbols of reintegration with our repressed traumatic womb experiences. Space travel is transition from one world to another in general. And the vehicle of passage is a UFO or spaceship ... in which one’s needs are taken care of and one is involved in passage or transition. It is not surprising that often in the course of this transition, space travel, the space voyagers of the silver screen encounter odd and horrifying developments.

Notice how we say “mother ship.” UFO type spaceships are so often depicted as round or spherical. Indeed, we have elaborate developments of these themes in the Death Star depiction of Star Wars — a round enclosed place and habitat associated with dread and death.

Vietnam-Era Generation — “Wow, Man!” “Just Do It” “Go With the Flow”

The Vietnam-War, or Baby-Boomer, Generation was noted for their use of a number of drugs. Marijuana; wine; “speed,” i.e., amphetamines; “downers,” for example, “ludes” or qualudes, also “reds” — that is to say, barbiturates; LSD; and other hallucinogens such as mescaline, “magic mushrooms,” psilocybin, and peyote — all were in use. The Sixties subculture was one of experimentation in all areas, including drugs, which grew out of beliefs — following in the footsteps of the Beat Generation — that normal life/people were characterized by phoniness, alienation, conformism, robotism, and lack of feelingness ... and hypocrisy. Plastic became the pejorative the Vietnam-era Generation would use to describe the phony people they saw around them, as revealed, often, by the mind-expanding drugs.

Furthermore, such direction by the therapist-facilitator can lead the client away from where they need to and are able to go — possibly into areas that fit more with the therapists’ paradigm, that fit more with the facilitator’s preconceptions of what is possible and how the client’s process is “meant” to unfold, and not where the client needed or could go. This would not be helpful at all in allowing a therapeutic endeavor that could discover anything new, anything beyond what had been conceived beforehand by Janov. As mentioned above, this would lead clients away from the interpretation of valid spiritual states or the joy grids. They would not happen with Janov’s clients because they would not be thought to be able to happen.

The Tao of Therapy

What I saw that allowed access to these deeper states — access to the joy and spiritual grids — was more along the lines of what was proposed by Janov’s one-time head of training, Jules Roth, and his wife and co- therapist, Helen Roth, and their followers and trainees at the Certified Primal Therapists’ Center in Denver, Colorado.

…your stance — for such a stance in life — then you could easily go directly to the second half of the book, “Matter Is Message.” It is a long book, and I can understand some might want to do that, if only to cut down on their reading. I need mention this because I want all readers to know of the second part of the book and not to miss it. I consider it the most profound, inspirational, and relevant part for these times and the people living in it.

Still, I have constructed the book to be read front to back. It follows a logical order, creating a rational, thoroughgoing, and comprehensive vision, which the latter parts are that much sweeter by. I think you will miss out a little at least by skipping over the earlier chapters.

Whichever of these ways you read it, or some other way — perhaps you are one to have your dessert first and then get your meat and potatoes later, maybe to have dessert then again — my wish for you is that you receive the blessing of reading it with the same joy, and fun, in which I wrote it. I hope the reverence and gratitude I felt as it came through me is sensed by you as well.

…fire is to pick up a bucket. Anything else is numb, unfeeling, quite dissociated, and selfish. And when one is inside that house, the only sane response is to get out the fire extinguisher, seek to help the ones inside to get free from the flames, to minimize the suffering of others and to save others and oneself, regardless if one succeeds or not. The only sane response is thus heroism.

So it is that in a time like this many things need to be re-evaluated. For not only the definition of sanity but even our understanding of heroism requires reconsideration. We have a legacy where, amazingly, heroism is associated with killers, with warriors. Well, the ones on the other side of this societally proclaimed “hero” as destroyer of life do not think this person so “heroic” now, do they? So this also must be revised. In a multicultural world, where not only the environment needs addressing but war needs revising, we see that there are no humans worth killing for the sake of anyone’s government. All are innocent. And warriors are not heroes, they are murderers. Sanctioned murderers, rewarded murderers, heralded murderers, yet murderers nonetheless.

So what this leads us to is a new definition of the hero’s cycle. This new hero’s cycle, in its turn, reveals another revision needing to be made. Which is that of the Oedipal and Electra complexes. This book shows why that is so, as well.

On the doorstep of an apocalypse of our own making, a revisioning of human’s presumed role as “crown of creation” and “pinnacle of evolution” is not just warranted but required. We are the prodigal daughters and sons of Nature and the Divine, no doubt about it. Prodigal Human reveals exactly that twistedness and how we can get back what we lost.

This retreat from harmony with Nature, along with an incisive exposition of the resulting state of falleness, as it built up over time, is detailed in this book. This work is more empirical and neurophysiologically rooted than most in the field. While the book is recognized in the field, Janov and his work have not gotten anywhere near the respect and attention that they deserve. He remains the unfortunate kicking- boy of a movement that is itself scapegoated by the academy and the larger scientific community.

Further, they never made note of the fact that indigenous people, when they went to war, did very little killing and quite a bit of their “savagery” was merely display.

So white man wiped out these “savages” and committed genocide on entire societies/cultures of them. And the indigenous peoples ... they were the savages?!

I think we currently have a similar attitude about our planetmates as White Man has had about indigenous peoples historically. We are the savages seeing “savagery” in other people ... and in Nature.

We are seeing what is going on in Nature through filters biased in our favor, much like being ethnocentric in judging other cultures and “races.” And with a closer look and putting judgment to the side we come up with an entirely different understanding — one that aids the cross-species understanding between humans and planetmates that is now, and none too soon, dawning on us.

…reading body language, but if you look at actors and the way they can convey so much information with a slight change of lip, eyebrow, head movement, or such — sometimes movements of muscles in the face practically imperceptible, yet we get the message — you will see how profoundly good we got at understanding each other’s feelings, emotions, and even thoughts that way. We can tell a lot by “the look on her (his) face.”

These are only a few of the many ways our bodies changed, and in these kinds of changes we were not all that unusual in Nature. Other species had been land-dwelling and had actually made a complete change of residence to the sea. Among these are the seals, dolphins, whales, walruses, and dugong, also known as sea cows. They had all once lived on land. The whale was once a land-dwelling quadruped, like any other of the furry animals we see around us today. And the manatee evolved from a creature that had similarities to both an elephant and a rabbit. Imagine that.

The changes in their bodies were huge ... as were the changes in their sizes, by the way. Limbs that were important on land became rather useless in the water, and flippers and fins and the like were better things to bring to water. In water, removing the limitations of gravity, as it did, meant that size, shape, and weight were not constrained. Sea mammals became big and blubbery.

So for informational purposes, we developed two of our abilities exceedingly — the ability to make meaningful sounds to communicate and a refined capability to convey emotion, thought, and intent through facial expression. The first would lead to language, over a very long time. The second grew out of the fact that in water, at times, it was only or primarily our heads that were visible.

It was quite an advantage in acquiring food to be able to communi- cate with our own, so being able to send and receive signals by way of facial expressions was a huge boon. We could not use our body language as much in water. Being often up to our heads in it, sometimes we could not wave our arms to signal alarm. It was difficult to indicate displeasure or irritation with one’s body posture alone. Signals for happiness, pleasure, and direction were similarly muted. As mentioned, using smell for communication — as many in our extended family did to achieve the same ends — was no longer possible.

Hence, we became ever more adept at portraying messages through our faces, culminating in tiny but finely tuned movements in facial muscles and the ever more refined changes in facial expression that would make possible. A New Paradigm Emerging

Stanislav Grof (1970, 1975, 1980, 1984, 1985, 1988a, 1988b; Grof and Grof 1980, 1989, 1990; Grof and Halifax 1977) is one such pioneer in this sort of “useless” research. There are an infinite number of poignant dramas … infinite horrors and heroines and tragic figures and heroic figures and demonic and angelic people. There are all of the characters beyond imagining, and they are all God. This is the way God continues not just experiencing Himself, but experiences Himself as multiple.

We are all God, each acting our part, but, being human, forgetting who we are and fully identifying with our characters. The part of ourselves who is God, She knows She is God still. She knows She's God ... playing all these parts.

However, scientists and the educated public are not supposed to be like that. It is our job to be looking squarely into the face of these forces of denial and potential apocalypse and to be seeking to understand the human condition and human psychology in light of them. It is our duty then to inform the rest of us about what we see so that we might have a chance of reversing our self-destructive tendencies.

Whether the educated public and the multitude of scholars actually are fulfilling their mission in these times is debatable.

In the supine position, lying on one’s back, face up, the arteries that go down along the lumbar spine, which are the vena cava and the aorta, are compressed. As Briend explains, compression of the aorta causes a drop in arterial blood pressure distal to the lumbar lordosis. This directly impacts the nutrition of the prenate, in that it reduces blood flow involving the uterus. Yet beyond the symbolic/perinatal level the researchers concur once again, with Masters and Houston calling the deepest level integral, and describing a number and variety of spiritual experiences that can happen at that level, and Grof terming the same level the transpersonal, and presenting in exquisite detail in his works a vast array of “spiritual” type experiences at that level.

With this in mind, I wish to point out that most of the Sixties Generation did not know of these levels and, for the most part, were totally unaware of the research that was coming up with these typographies or architectures of the psyche, or of at least of the drug experience. Nevertheless, those of us who lived through that period and either participated in LSD use or heard the stories of psychedelic experiencers can attest that transformative spiritual experiences were quite common, even when the drug was used just for the “fun” sensory part; and people also described experiences of curling up in fetal position and reliving their births, long before anyone even heard the term perinatal. As concerns the spiritual level, it was not uncommon to hear of people who met with someone who would be comparable to a Jesus, or who went to a place they could only describe as “heaven,” and this is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of the varieties of spiritual experiences that were had.
