Extremist zionists like Stevens and Fetterman will say whatever they need to gain power, and work to serve a pro-Israeli pro-Netanyahu (pro-genocide) agenda. Nothing else is as important to them, and when they are finally exposed, they take off that mask and go all in.
This is what a huge segment of Democratic Party pro-corporate politicians do, and it's similar to the function played by magazines like, say, the Atlantic. When the facade crumbles though, these folks are often forced to get more and more overt about their true goals.
