Frequently confusing irreverent with irrelevant. Also ethical investment (not allowed to call it sustainable), employee ownership, running and general sports burble
Now 'tis the autumn of @eekyrich.bsky.social's content. As Shakespeare once nearly wrote.
Shortly off to Manchester Airport for son arriving back from a month in Tanzania. Usual quick pickup not an option as we all want to see him come through the gates. Airport recommends pre-booking for parking for longer "as it's cheaper". Cost 1hr rollup: £13.20 Cost 1hr booking: £50.20 50 quid!!!
Bloody hell that mile race at the Commonwealth Games was like a boxing match!! So physical! Josh Kerr had to fight his way out with 600m to go and then gradually ramped to destroy the field
For anyone wondering how late 90s dance legends Baby D are getting on, the answer is they've just been playing the Styal beer festival. Annual free tickets for us sat out at home with the tunes carrying on the breeze
I suspect this isn’t wide known. If you have a 5-day heatwave where max temps stay constant at eg 40 C, on the first day you might have 1,000 excess deaths, on the 2nd - 1,500, 3rd - 2,000 etc. In other words, the impact of heat stress is cumulative.
For anyone confused by the fact that 30,000 is much more than 5 times 3,400, it’s because a continuous multi-day heatwave causes more deaths than multiple 1-day temperature spikes.
Managed to remember my lines on returning to First Timers' Welcome at #parkrun which was handy 😂 Decent run and now enjoying post-run coffee, it's a good start to the weekend!
Pleased to see such a senior figure emphasising climate change risks and need for financial services sector to work on it. Both Allianz & UniCredit have improved their approach in last 3 years so change is happening. (Sure others have too, I just know those two directly)
ECB official warns climate crisis poses growing threat to ‘core financial stability’
Wish I'd known that today was National Drive Like A Spanner day before I'd set off on what became an 8.5 hour journey
Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.
If anyone's traveling on the A9 towards or away from Perth, traffic very slow owing to an accident (police managing traffic at Dunkeld turnoff when coming South). Unfortunately appears to be a fatality: we've never seen a big screen blocking off the entire road before)
More pressure on nuclear energy, to follow on from the increasing spare of temporary shutdowns European plants have had when the sea water intake gets too warm. A decarbonising asset increasingly being affected by the very climate change it's seen as helping counteract.
Romania has shut down both its nuclear reactors for the first time ever due to low water levels on the Danube - www.reuters.com/business/ene...
However death evasion will increase and that will mean we'll never see the end of the Final Destination franchise
Taxing death will increase the cost of death thereby reducing the demand for death so consumption of death will go down. What's not to like? Basic economics innit.
In latest installment of the kids are gonna be alright, currently receiving videos from Tanzania. So far teachers have killed themselves laughing while arriving to give what's now been dubbed 'El bollocko' before the boys performed a forfeit song to whole camp as their penance for their misdemeanor
Pleased to report that the house has survived 10 18yo boys playing poker last night. The kids are gonna be alright
Sixth online meeting of the day just finished and I. Am. Done. In.
One can only hope that this case can finally be solved. I'd never seen the final sentence referred to before regarding it and it gave me a jolt reading it given what happened.
‘We’re not going to give up’: 40 years since Suzy Lamplugh vanished, police still hope to find her
Remember how when the casting for The Odyssey was revealed, it triggered all the right people? Having waded through the whole of *that* LRB review, I've got a gnawing suspicion that that still holds true. Feels not so much a critical review as the showing of true colours.
When I read the news earlier today, was sorely tempted to post it as a perfect fat pitch to serve up to Andy B. Whereas @jenwilliamsft.bsky.social says it much more eloquently as usual
If I was an agency wanting to be disbanded, I would choose the moment just after a new man of the ppl PM from the NW arrived - with a defining mission to rebalance the country and make agencies accountable - to pull £ from the world renowned telescope visited by generation upon generation of NW kids
@rosamundi.bsky.social For info, as I've just had a look at her TL, today's parking agitator has made 77 posts on here. Prior to today, she'd made 16 in over a year. But 61 alone today. Makes me wonder if it's some dodgy troll farm account relishing getting the engagement.
If I wanted a civil discussion, I wouldn't repeatedly accuse other parties to the discussion of blatant lying 🤷♂️

I'll never tire of this view. Lovely temperature, red kites calling as they glide in the sky all around. Just lovely.
This is quite the story. I saw him a few years ago in the 8th/9th tier of English football with the reborn Macclesfield FC and now he's potentially playing in a Champions League qualifier. Always looked much classier than anyone else at that and higher levels. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...
Hearts sign Laurent Mendy for Forest Green Rovers record fee of near £1m
Forest Green Rovers sell midfielder Laurent Mendy to Heart of Midlothian for what the National League outfit say could be a club record fee of nearly £1m "if all targets are met".

Can confirm this feels as crap as it looks. Can't remember the last time I've been in 13°!
Nothing like spending half an hour looking for the thing which is right under your bloody nose. FFS. Still, only 5 hours until the alarm goes off.
For the love of God will my colleague please STFU on the morning call. Verbal diarrhea for the sake of it
