Real creatures which appear disproportionately often in children’s fiction compared to actual life: FROGS. I last saw a frog in the wild five years ago (and I go out to parks with ponds and lakes a lot), but every one of my toddler daughter’s books has a frog in it. They’re the quicksand of animals.

I know what the actual words are, of course. But I swear for 90% of people, myself included, when they hear or sing Scissor Sisters' biggest hit, it's like “Don't feel like dancing, dancing, DIBBY DIBBY DIBBY DIBBIDY DOO!” (Can anyone tell it's just been Pride weekend in Brighton?)

That National Rail advert where a man is wearing socks and sandals and a woman laughs "I mean, it's the mullet of footwear" makes me want to SCREAM. Don't they realise the mullet is in its third wave, is worn by cool people, and is about the coolest hairdo you can have? How has this passed them by?

Bill Oddie was a massive Prince fan and reputedly had a mural of the Dirty Mind back cover in his home, so he's alright by me. Also, I've no idea how The Goodies stands up now, but he was the first TV funny man to make me laugh as a child, so I thank him for that. R.I.P.

Early days, but I'd give Andy Burnham a solid 7/10 so far. The main negatives are leaving the awful Shabana Mahmood in place as Home Secretary, and giving Health to Yvette Cooper, aka The Shit That Won't Flush. Other than that, he's talked a good talk on numerous things. We'll see if he delivers.

The sight of kids with their shirts covered in the scrawled signatures of classmates at the end of Summer Term is something I'll never get used to. We wouldn't have dreamed of that in 80s South Wales. That was one of five decent shirts you owned! What if you needed it for an interview? Or a funeral?

Remembering the harmless people I affected to believe were the worst in the world, in the recent past, and flinching. Cereal cafes, fire jugglers, baristas who said 'buddy', etc. A time of privilege, when the bigger battles seemed decisively won. And now the ACTUAL worst people are in the ascendant.
