Just finished *The Haar* by @paperbacksandpugs.bsky.social. A gripping and viscerally nasty novel that feels like a cosmic horror Hitchhiker’s Guide meets Little Shop of Horrors, but pitch black, while also being touching and affecting with 3d characters. 8/10 Strong stomachs only. #horrorwriters

Milkweed, I suppose, because it's central to the lifecycle of the monarch butterfly, but I can't plant it in my backyard because it's poisonous, especially to dogs. I haven't really thought about this kind of question much. #horrorwriterschat

Yes, absolutely. I have a story in a literary mag called Chthonic Lit about mushrooms that mind-control a guy into a cave where he's devoured by "The Mother." I actually write a surprising number of horror stories involving forests. #horrorwriterschat

Hi there, I write weird/cosmic horror, along with fantasy and sci-fi and other stuff. Lovecraft's Colour Out of Space (and the Nicolas Cage movie). I'll also point to Annihilation as a similar story. Blair Witch would also qualify. Pulse, the J-horror, also sort of qualifies. #horrorwriterschat

It didn't exist in three dimensions, or it wouldn't shift like that - almost like I was seeing slices of it dipping into my world from somewhere else. I could see viscera where the flesh disappeared, but the flesh reappeared and covered it. A jaw vanished, leaving bare teeth. #horrorwriterschat

I like cosmic horror, so I tend to design creatures that really can't be looked at without driving the viewer insane, which is a trope obviously. I try to put my own spin on things though - creatures mostly made of eyes, unique manifestations of Nyarlathotep, things like that. #horrorwriterschat

I—” Fenrick broke off, water in his eyes. “Hey,” Rax said softly, seeing the truth in Fenrick’s eyes. “You two…” “Yeah,” Fenrick said, his voice trembling. “Ages ago, when we were too young to know what any of it meant. But yeah.” Rax pulled Fenrick into a hug, and Fenrick broke. Rax held him through the trembling sobs, until the cobalt drake’s breathing evened out. Rax pulled back and looked into Fenrick’s eyes. “You ok?” Fenrick nodded, sniffling. Rax pulled a crumpled napkin out of his pocket and dabbed at Fenrick’s eyes with it. “I will be, Rax. I’m…gods I’m so sorry about what I said to you on the pass.” “It’s ok, Fen. Kind of a cool line, actually. ‘Fly right when the wind’s wrong.’ Gonna hold onto that one.”
