Some of the photos I got while I was out today. The first photo was a view I saw Sunday while out with Nic on a drive, I went back via train and found the view again, the city is over 15 km away. The bird is a Common Myna. And of course, sunset seagull over the Sydney harbour bridge.

Things I was not expecting to photograph during my Australian holiday: Ice hockey! @niclliz.bsky.social took me to a game and I got to try photographing ice hockey for the first time. I enjoyed the experience and am once again glad I brought my best full-frame camera for the task!
This holiday feels so weird. I have been in greater Sydney for ten days, I haven't seen the CBD once, or the ocean, or any of the typical landmarks I've been on trains on only two days I have seen hardly anyone outside the con who's local besides my gracious host But at least I feel better now.
Wanted to repost this set of squirrel photos I took back in March because for all of its form and spelndour, Australia is lacking in my favourite little troublemakers & I feel the need to balance the force @niclliz.bsky.social has been putting on nature vids of squirrels for me & they are soothing.
Donatello will always be my favourite ninja turtle because even as a kid, I identified with him because he was the nerd. He's also the one with the least weapon-like "weapon" He's the purple one And he's literally making espresso in the intro to the original animated series

So I had to visit a doctor today because whatever I caught on my first day just didn't improve. Diagnosis is a sinus infection and conjunctivitis. I've spent nearly half my trip now sick and the last few days too sick to really do much. Hopefully I can recover and salvage the second half of my trip
A few more dance comp edits tonight. Also got a Telstra sim now so I am all set. The rep who helped me had a partner from Minnesota who moved to Sydney XD
Aurawra is a great little con and I mean "little" endearingly. The staff treat it like their pride and joy. The hotel is nice enough, it's not overwhelming, Parramatta has a lot to offer and everyone I met, from the chair to the volunteers to staff to attendees have all been super friendly to me.
I went back out and took more bat photos later this morning. It turns out bats are insomniacs.
Fruit bats as promised! Woke up at 530 and walked to the park before Breakkie. Ideal timing for getting them returning to roost but since I don't have a fast telephoto lens I am shooting at a much higher iso than I'd like. Still, glad to have photos of these guys in their natural habitat :)
I think my Aurawra dance comp photos are some of the best I've ever taken. The lighting was sublime and apart from the stage being a bit smaller than I'm used to, @nutzy.bsky.social went out of her way to get me a good spot & was super chill. She's the reason I got to photo Aurawra first dance comp
Meeting people at Aurawra who remember me from 12 years ago but who I don't remember is really disheartening to me. On one hand, it's nice to be memorable. On the other, what's wrong with me?
Some photos from Aurawra today. I'm still not caught up on my sleep so 8 pm is bedtime. Tomorrow is the big day with Dance Comp and the Variety Show so I have to be on my game. Also I'm told Paramatta Park has an infestation of flying foxes so I guess I'm walking over there tomorrow too. =)
My friend @velplatypup.bsky.social was kind enough to pick me up an Optus sim card for my trip only for me to learn Optus has banned my model of phone despite being unlocked and having the bands needed. Telstra has not banned my phone so I guess I'm buying another sim card eventually. WiFi for now
The quintessential Aussie experience: Watching a Bin Chicken (Ibis) drinking out of puddles on the street. I'm so grateful that everything came together to allow me to capture this feat of nature.
