We are the Turning

People CAN change their minds about the climate crisis. And individual doubt CAN grow into collective action. "We Are the Turning" is a dialogue between scepticism and hope — about listening, questioning, recognising the changes unfolding around us, and discovering what becomes possible when we act together. Lyrics: The wildfires spread, the rivers run dry, Seems nobody's listening, nobody will try. I hear you, I feel it, I know what you mean, But something is happening that can't be unseen. The promises made and the promises broken, Just words in the wind, better left unspoken. The words may be hollow from those holding power, But people are gathering, this is our hour. What hour is this then, when the forests are burning, When children inherit a world past returning? That's why we must move, not tomorrow, today, Each hand joined to others can show them the way. In the past I've ignored what we've come now to know, Is joining with others the way I should go? There's a march and a meeting, a group on your street, There's a voice for the voiceless wherever we meet. And these folk that you speak of, do they know what we need? Not just venting their rage against corporate greed? A farmer, a teacher, a mother, a friend, All working together toward the same end. We've argued and questioned and sat with our doubt, But maybe together we can work this thing out. What's happening around us is strange to behold, At last I can see how the changes unfold. Our direction can surely be turned around, And make certain the carbon stays deep in the ground. We've swum deep in the water and waved at the shore, Not knowing if anyone heard any more, But the tide is now turning, the future is clear, Our waves carry power, tipping points are now near. We are the turning, we are the tide, And the merchants of carbon have nowhere to hide.

Learned to drive in one exactly like this, seen in Rye this week! Split screen Morris Minor, same snazzy colour, red leather seats. Even remember the plate: NLH 744. Probably made 1952. Passed the test in it November 1965. 🥳 Was written off in a not-my-fault crash (honest) the following year. ☹️ G

Well I hope the people of Great Yarmouth recognise what an ignorant bastard they have as their Member of Parliament. 🤬 I am certainly not going to try to listen to what he said about Dunblane but he’s presumably seeking to remove or dilute the UK ban on handguns. Stupid effing cretin.
