🌟 🌗 Over the next few hours the First Quarter Moon will pass near Spica, the brightest star in Virgo. Closest approach is at 3h UT on 21 July. The gathering will be visible worldwide in the evening sky. Spica is located near the ecliptic making for regular close encounters with the Moon. 🔭

🌘 ⭐ Over the next few hours the crescent Moon will appear near the bright star Regulus in the evening sky. Regulus is the brightest star in the constellation Leo (the Lion) and is located on the Ecliptic making for regular encounters with the Moon. 🔭 Lore: Skymaps.com/myths/

🌟 🌔 In a few hours, the waxing gibbous Moon will pass near Spica, the brightest star in Virgo. Closest approach is at 20h UT on 23 June. The pairing will be visible worldwide. Spica is located near the ecliptic (near Virgo's left knee) making for regular close encounters with the Moon. 🔭

☀️ The June solstice occurs at 8:23 UT (now) on 21 June 2026. This is the instant when the Sun reaches the point farthest north of the celestial equator marking the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere (Summer Solstice) and winter in the Southern Hemisphere (Winter Solstice). 🔭

Over 200 people of all ages were present at Adelaide University on 24 June 1997 for a public lecture by Dr Alan Hale -- co-discoverer of Comet Hale-Bopp. After the entertaining talk, Dr Hale (left) presented a copy of his book "Everybody's Comet" to Bill Bradfield -- the 20th century's most prolific visual comet discoverer (18 comets).
