A National Mosquito Control Awareness Week x National Pollinator Week crossover! DYK there is a non biting mosquito? Meet Toxorhynchites, aka the elephant mosquito. Adults feed on nectar, sugar, & sap. Their larvae feed on other mosquito larvae and have been used as biological controls before. 🦟

The District will be using the Skeeter Meter; a communication tool created by the CDC to help spread local awareness of West Nile virus (WNV) risk. While testing for WNV doesn't start until July for the District, this tool will demonstrate the community's risk level throughout the season. 🦟

Early this week the district set several adult mosquito surveillance traps. Two trap sites had higher mosquito numbers. The traps primarily consist of Culex pipiens, Culex tarsalis, and Culiseta inornata. As the season progresses, trapping will be moved from once per week to twice. 🦟
