The faint blush of surprise is unmistakable on his pale, softly lined cheeks. But his eyebrows are slowly drawing together in a frown. Jayce already wants to take his words back before Viktor has a chance to turn them around and stab Jayce with them.

“I’m sorry, this—I shouldn’t have—” Jayce starts, recoiling from Viktor’s expression.

Jayce laughs a little self-consciously, fiddling with the strap of his cross-shoulder bag as he recalls last week’s office hour spent in heated discussion over points deducted over ‘imprecise language’. Not that this actually impacted anything in the overall grading of his report, but Jayce loves to argue semantics nearly as much as having a valid pretense to visit his professor during office hours.

“Oh no, sir, you’ve made your point very clear on that front. I’ve learnt my lesson and will be incredibly precise in my wording for all my future coursework,” Jayce bows his head in mock deference to the word of god, or in this case, the word of his professor. Which, on Piltover Campus, is practically the same thing.

“I’m glad to hear that.” Viktor chuckles.

Jayce’s breath catches in his throat as his attention fixates on the shine of amber eyes crinkling with amusement.

After a drawn moment of Jayce staring dumbly, Viktor cocks his head to the side in question. “So, how exactly can I help you in the last three minutes of my office hour, Mr. Talis?”

“Ah, yes, of course, well, it’s—” Jayce catches the tail end of his wits before they dissolve in the hormone-fried mush that is his brain as of late. “It’s more of a… personal matter.”
