U.S. Senator from the great state of Michigan. Working to boost the middle class, protect our country, our kids and our democracy. Former national security official.

After the deadly tornadoes in Southwest Michigan, I heard the same question over and over: Are we seeing more severe weather? I met with the National Weather Service and FEMA, and the answer is yes.

The recently passed bipartisan housing bill cuts unnecessary red tape that can add thousands of dollars to the cost of building a home. If we want more affordable housing, we need to make it easier and less expensive to build.

What is happening inside the military with promotions and firings: We have a ton of people who are being removed from promotion lists. They’re being recommended by those in uniform, and they are being stripped out by Pete Hegseth.

Our union workers are often the first to get wind of issues with the federal government in workplaces, so it was good to sit down and hear directly from them. Steelworkers are always welcome in my office (even if they are from Ohio).

In this week's Intel Briefing, we break down 3 important topics: 1️⃣ The Gordie Howe Bridge and how it will help Michiganders 2️⃣ How to stay safe during tornadoes and other extreme weather 3️⃣ What it could look like if Pres. Trump tries to interfere in our elections youtu.be/W6C6wOh4i5c

This week, I had the chance to talk with the next generation of leaders from the University of Michigan Public Service Intern Program. We had insightful conversations about what it’s like to serve as a Senator, bipartisanship, and the overwhelming need for younger leadership in our politics.

The war in Iran is driving up costs here at home. If and when the Strait of Hormuz opens up, and global shipping is resumed it will be important to hold oil and gas companies accountable and make sure gas prices are again coming down.

Whether it’s on land, in the water, or in the sky — new technology should be built by Michiganders, many of whom were in the room with me in Traverse City last week. Companies like Sharrow Marine, whose propeller technology is groundbreaking (and it’s made right here in Michigan!)

I never posted on social media before I ran for office. One of the first times I posted was about President Trump trying to repeal Obamacare. It took my friends by surprise and they thought I’d been hacked.

What can state programs and our bipartisan housing bill do for homebuyers in Michigan? I break it down, including how through Michigan’s housing agency, eligible homebuyers may qualify for up to $10,000 in down payment assistance, closing costs, and other prepaid expenses.

Talking with Michiganders of all backgrounds and ages is one of my favorite parts of the job, and a few weeks ago, Mayas Smith, a student heading to college and host of Young Citizens Academy, on Bloomfield Community Television reached out for an interview and I was happy to agree.

From our truckers and tourists to cars and motorcycles -- after many ups and downs, the Gordie Howe Bridge is open for business. This bridge will further connect us economically and culturally to our neighbors in Canada, and I can't wait to drive across it myself soon.

Last week, I met with President Aoun again after our meeting in Beirut in February. We discussed concerns of Michiganders who had family members killed and homes destroyed by Israeli strikes -- and the need for documentation and accountability for this destruction, particularly in southern Lebanon.

Creating jobs. Investing in growth and infrastructure. And supporting small businesses. Michiganders across our state are rolling up their sleeves to move us forward on all those fronts -- and I saw it in action this month from Mount Clemens to Auburn Hills to Warren.

No matter our differences, threats of violence against local leaders are never acceptable. This time it was in Holly, but I’ve seen it happen across the state. This is part of a troubling trend of violent threats targeting local officials across the country. www.fox2detroit.com/news/holly-v...
