Spent 7 hours reading and drilling charts today. RIP Sonny Rollins.
Dreamed I was in a building that was flooding from ceiling down to floor.
Been thinking a lot recently about first steps toward good jukebox software (like Plex or Swinsian - software that uses files you own), and one of the very first steps to me seems to be standardization of music metadata. Basically, ID3 tag frames, and keeping those in sync with a database. (1/7)
When the music is quiet, it is not possible for it to be quiet enough. When the music is loud, it is not possible for it to be loud enough.

Finally getting my hands dirty with Renoise after a couple years of hearing it call to me. Many internal voices running self-doubt bangers e.g. "yr too old to learn new things" (I learn new things all the time??) or "this is gonna sound bad" (yes?? so??). Doin it anyway, feelin the burn as they say!
Got a little sidebar going on the Writing page of my personal site. Safe to say I have a real blog again! brendanlandis.com/writing

I've just discovered the Aadam Jacobs Collection (@ajcproject.mas.to.ap.brid.gy), holy shit: archive.org/details/aada... Grabbed some old shows from Fugazi, Boredoms, Slint, Flipper, Need New Body, Cinematic Orchestra, a few others. Lot of surprises in this archive, what a rad project!

Recos from streaming apps or social media should always be regarded as sponcon.
you should discover new music by accident. go to small shows where you haven't heard of most of the artists. dig in the crates of a record store and ask the person working there for a recommendation. ask your friends what's been in their ear recently.
I wrote a bit about joyfully maintaining a 1.5TB mp3 library in 2026: brendanlandis.com/writing/on-l... (My personal web site is still under construction and some parts look weird, sorry! Embarrassing as a frontend guy but whatever.)

This. I think of "content" as one of those terms made up by the ad industry to do two things: - sneak slop and ads onto the shelf next to works of genuine cultural value - blur the lines between themselves ("creatives"!) and people who make works of genuine cultural value
i do not want to make content. i want to make music and i want to write. i do not want to make content

An old fav new age album that came up on random just now. Not a style that I write in or that usually resonates with me, but sometimes you get a reco from a friend and it sticks. williamackerman.bandcamp.com/album/sound-...

Hello! My birthday's coming up, and Receive will be playing a show in celebration, at Gold Sounds, on 9/11. (Real bday is on the 12th.) Also on the bill are the homies Bad Trips, Death Drive, and Dirtbag Ivy. It's going to be a real fun night, even moreso with your company. Ok sick!
