I see a ton of stories where they talk about the final weight being like "they could barely move and get off of the bed and needed to be fed there, they were an unthinkable 350 pounds!" Meanwhile my 460 pound ass reading it is just
If a character wants something and the story is spending page time and attention on that pursuit, they should encounter complications either in the pursuit of it, or in the fulfillment of that desire.
So gainer fics are usually short form wish fulfillment type stories. In the ones where the character wants to get fat, if there is complication itll usually be "character got more than they expected" type stuff. "Did character get fat?" "Yes, and they broke the floor from their new weight"
A key part of a story is "a character wants something" and "they encounter complications getting that something". When a character gets something easily and quickly, that brings a flavor of wish fulfillment and/or power fantasy to the story, so you need to anticipate that as an author.
Two characters that keep showing up in my attempts at story is The Big Guy and The Goblin, and ive realized recently that im basically just recreating calvin and hobbes personality wise while adding in different details
