Pearl in cyber gear in a virtual training arena shoots a bunch of fish robots.
A giant orb is knocked over the edge of the arena.
The task was to “Guide the 8-ball to the goal.”
“Wha?” says Pearl.
Words flash over the screen “Game Over.”

“Another lost ball… not cool.” Pearl removes her VR headset.

“But it’s essential to the challenge! Game design friction!” Marina, Pearl’s friend, says while grasping her laptop. They are in a soundroom with computers everywhere.

“I know you’re a genius Marina, but would it kill ya to add guard rails?” says Pearl leaning in.

“The playtesters seemed to do OK…”
“Oh, Eight! Mind giving “8-ball” another try?” Marina turns to Eight, who just walked in with a tray of mandarins and energy drinks.

However, Eight has a flashback of their testing days...
“You let an 8-ball fall-”
“-Test Failed.” a voice on intercom says as Eight looks over the edge of a cliff.

Back in the soundroom, Eight appears to have fainted.
“See? Do it for Eight!” Pearl hugs Eight trying to wake them.

“Ahh sorry…” Marina says.

I need to see a Golden Egg conveyor belt in action. Even just once TwT. Lil rows of eggs traveling to the basket on their own seem so cute. And imagine having to shoot off Snatchers on the way lol Or you could put dummy Inklings on there to work as scarecrows!

Yoshihiko Ito: We'd started building the gameplay around the idea of traps, so there were lots of gadgets designed to be placed on the ground. Also, since the original objective, much like Salmon Run, was to collect Golden Eggs from defeated Salmonids and deliver them to a container, we even came up with a conveyor belt-like gadget that could automatically transport a large number of Golden Eggs. (Laughs)

PANEL 2: the pigeon slouches, sweating and clutching their head. they look troubled. the laptop is closed now. run-on text fills the background; it's a narration of negative thoughts. "oh my god that went so bad i stuttered and stumbled and was silent for too long and even had to ask to start again and i sounded so boring and robotic and rambled on with no point..." ad nauseam
PANEL 3: later, the pigeon receives a phone call, looking shocked. on the other end of the phone, someone says "congrats, you got the job!"
