That segue from Chalkdust into Stash was unlike anything I’ve ever heard them do. Wild.
Meaningless Excitement

Like a cross between a hurricane, and a ship that’s run aground. Phish, Grateful Dead, mountain biking, snowboarding, gardening in Brattleboro, Vermont. Sometimes using my doctorate to talk about Phish.
It’s true! Look up the lyrics: Melt the Guns is highly critical of gun culture and the celebration of violence, GI Joe bullshit, etc. And specifically calls out the USA (XTC is a British band) for their glorification of guns
The real bust out was phish making a political statement
In 2011, @consequence.bsky.social got me a photo pass to SuperBall IX and I snapped this picture from the photo pit of a girl in the front row with this sign. 15 years later…I hope she was at Fenway last night!!
If they played melt the guns, I'd lose it, though honestly anything XTC would be welcome as fuck
Ok so I just finished writing an essay for an edited volume that is all about Phish’s early covers in their college years and I have a whole paragraph about Melt the Guns, I’ve been listening to this song a ton recently. I can’t believe I was here tonight to hear that bust out. Hope it stays
Wearing my English Settlement t-shirt on the night Phish plays Melt the Guns for the first time since 1987. #Phish
Last Melt The Guns: 4/29/87: 2,051 show gap. Biggest bustout in Phish history by well over 500 shows. Wow.
I am losing my mind right now. Knew what this was instantly and have been the only person in my section freaking out the whole time. Omg omg omg
Me and @rosesarephree.bsky.social got the last picture with Wally and the Hood sign right before they closed the Photo Booth.
This is the greatest phish show consumable ever
If you are very spun reading this, come over to right field box 90. There are like 20 empty rows and the sound is great. Do your thang
Yesss I have a speaker stack right in front of me!!! Try to bad sound this, Fenway!
You may have seen a show with a 1996 setlist. But I just bought tickets for a Phish show at 1996 prices!
The silver lining to not seeing any of the MSG shows is that they didn’t play A Train so at least that’s one song that didn’t get crossed off everyone’s list except mine
Ok so at first I was like “what is even on the table for Fenway?” but then I put the Phish in 5 into @zzyzx.bsky.social Phish Stats and went to the top 40 songs most commonly played not seen…and this ain’t looking half bad! Not to mention all the newer stuff not on here.
The ending of Harpua is by far one of my favorite phish moments of any. I’ve only seen it live once (7/29/03) because the only other Harpua I’ve seen was 12/31/23 and as we know, no ending on that one 🫠
I was really hoping that Trey would be wearing the yellow gold shirt from the Clifford Ball and I am so thrilled to see that yes, he is.
1996 *should* have been my first show, my buddy got tickets for 12/31/96, but then he starting dating a girl that fall and she went with him instead
4 for 5 but damn, they really shoulda dropped a YEM on 95 night!
Phish show 95 at MSG #pick5 Theme Timber Ho Strange Design YEM Drowned
