What an incredible afternoon yesterday! 🎉 The SMSLab team swapped the lab for a culinary escape room with #ColorsbybyExperiencity 👨🍳 👩🍳 We then wrapped up the day with our traditional Meme Competition: Summer Edition. Would you like to see some of the best memes? 👀
Our own Sol Carretero Palacios recently participated in the workshop Advances in Interfacial Forces and Casimir Interactions, held at Aspenäs Herrgård, Gothenburg. She presented her work on the role of Casimir–Lifshitz forces in ice premelting and interfacial water films.
A fantastic first step for Carmen into solid-state NMR! We are very excited about this new collaboration with Juan Carlos Muñoz and deeply grateful for his support and expertise. Many thanks as well to @iqf-csic.bsky.social and its technical staff for making these measurements possible!
Our own Jaime Bueno recently represented SMS Lab at Artificial Intelligence Photonics 2026 #AIPhotonics26 in San Sebastián @dipcehu.bsky.social. He presented his work highlighting how generative Al can help explore new photonic designs with tailored optical responses.
Earlier this month, our group leader, Miguel Anaya, participated as an invited speaker in El Camino de la Ciencia, a Young Researchers’ Meeting organised by the Real Academia Sevillana de Ciencias and the @unisevilla.us.es 🧵
¡No te puedes perder hoy a partir de las 13:00 horas a nuestra compañera Guadalupe Vega ( @smslab.bsky.social ) en riguroso directo hablando sobre materiales 2D! 🚨https://www.youtube.com/live/_zPNbqZcXvg
Last week, @buriedinthesun.bsky.social represented SMSLab at PRAD Workshop 2026, the European meeting on perovskite radiation detectors. Sol delivered an oral presentation entitled “Compositional design of multi-cation vacancy-ordered double perovskites for radiation detection”.
A few weeks ago, the SMSLab had an excellent retreat to Hoyos (hometown of Miguel)! We visited several towns in Extremadura, hiked a mountain, visited a castle, swam in a natural pool, ate some top-tier barbecue (thanks Miguel) and brought out our competitive spirits with board games.
Recently, Sol Fernández @buriedinthesun.bsky.social , Carmen Hidalgo, and Guadalupe Vega presented their thesis work at both the 1st ETSi Young Researchers Meeting 2026 @unisevilla.us.es and the 12th edition of Beer & Science, organised by the Faculty of Physics @fisicaus.bsky.social
We are elated to introduce Myrrelot Burggraaf, who joined our group as an Erasmus+ student from Universiteit Utrecht, where she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Nanomaterials Science. 🧵
We are pleased to share the symposium “Soft Materials for Emerging Optoelectronics”, organized by our own Susana Ramos Terrón and Miguel Anaya within the framework of the RSEF Biennial Meeting 2026.
Would you like to enjoy a drink while learning something new? Next Monday, you are all warmly invited to Pint of Science Sevilla to attend the talk by Miguel Anaya: "Perovskites: Materials for the Energy of the Future"
This week, we had the pleasure of taking part in the Seville Science Fair with our colleagues from @icmsevilla.bsky.social , running experiments and interactive activities to bring materials science closer to younger generations.
