I think this will work for my night goblins; a half inverted theme with rather bright clothing and a dark, high-contrast "heraldry". Well, regardless of whether it works or not this is now the chosen theme, so ya boo sucks to you, Fritzy. 💁😅

As the ancient Greeks said: "Fucking finally!". My take on my old stripped Ruglud's armoured orcs who according to lore picked up their heavy armour and crossbows from Chaos dwarves. I spent too much money on 15 extra figures, and they were a lot of work for a dodgy result, but here we are... 💁

I might do some night goblins and I've tried out some possible alternative themes. 🤔 All black is traditional, but also mildly boring, and grey is still very muted but slightly more visible. I do like the blue hood, though. The dinner plate is the shield attachment.

Barring the banner my 24 Karak Norn dwarf warriors are done. The flock is a trial with Noch 8460 Medium grey sawdust for a quick "cave floor" look as I'm picturing cave wars against goblins and whatnot, but it also works quite ok on my more speckled terrain mats. Good enough for government work... 💁

I tried two night goblins from white primer and 99% contrast paints; one in Black Templar with some shading, the other in a heavy coat of Basilicanum grey which quite obviously becomes a little brighter. I might use both. No further washes used on these, but overall quite happy with the concept.

And FINALLY I have finished the last of Ruglud's lads! 🙄🤦 I need to paint 5 more shields, then I can start varnishing etc. I love them as a youth memory, but overall they are pretty horrible sculpts, but then again I'm very spoiled by modern 3D prints... 💁

It might be a bit sad that first the 5th printer I buy is a 2D one, but I'm at least in the printing business again after getting violently separated from my office printer... 🥳

First 7 of my Karak Norn-themed dwarves! I have intentionally kept the poses and colour variations to a minimum to get somewhere, but with a shield with a homemade transfer with an absolutely awesome motif or other they should look ok.

A very simplistic trial (with no actual metals) of a Karak Norn theme for my possibly future dwarves. Loud, bright and the white primer is half the result. 👍 I'm struggling with my motivation again and I need to cut as many corners as possible. I'll also probably go for homemade shield transfers.

Only the musician left to paint of Ruglud's armoured orcs. Plus shields, bases, multiple layers of varnish etc etc... 🙄 I also guess the champion shouldn't have picked up that weird-glowing sword, but "wat's dat to yous, ya runty git!?"

I hate gluing uneven parts so I normally assemble in 3D before printing. Shields are problematic to support and you create a lot of "behind" to reach into, unless you prime black. So, I have successfully reinvented a 40+ year old technology using a peg and a hole in the shield. I are smartness... 😇

Another paint session with my best friend Christopher today. Not as concentrated this time as he was feeling poorly but I could at least a) crush his feeble attempt with my own fabulous orc b) demonstrate the use of a wash.

Plodding on with my old "Ruglud's armoured orcs"; 14 "done", barring bases, shields, multiple layers of varnish and flocking... 🙄 Ruglud's lads took their armour from Chaos knights, and THEY looked pretty psychedelic back in the days... 😅

Although the difference is tragically small given 30+ years between the painting efforts I'm going to stick my neck out and claim it looks a little better now... Regardless he's drafted to lead two battalions of halberdiers and a steam tank against the enemies of the Empire. Possibly victoriously.

A blinding success! A very happy little shit, and the mum in question was shocked by the level of concentration, but even she relaxed and locked in completely... I think this will happen again. 😅

I'm joined tomorrow by my best friend Christopher, 7 y.o. (a.k.a. The little shit) for some figure painting. As it's his first time I have mustered some old, unused figures as well as printed a few oversized ones. Given the risk of spilled contrast paints I think cheap crafts paint will have to do.

Apart from the shield on his back I have probably finished Ruglud. He has of course made sure to get the best Chaos warrior armour for himself. A rather doubtful mix of contrast and regular paints on a rather horrible sculpt, but at least he is keen to lead my orc army into the fray...

Finally returning to the excellent dwarves from Old Realm Forge for a thane leader of my small army. Mainly just contrasts and washes, with some fake ermine on the cloak. I need to paint up Ruglud himself and an Empire general, then I can try a very small 2 vs. 2 in TOW.

Just a quick trial of the concept. The shield needs a wash and a shave, but both size and insane chaos colours work for me.

Am I up in the middle of the night painting weirdass, old-school Chaos shields? Maybe. But I don't see how that's any of your business... 😤

Finally giving my rescued Ruglud's lads a go. The sculpts are pretty crappy and shallow so I opted for very simple painting, with the plate in pure silver with contrast in top. They took the heavy armour of Chaos warriors so the plate and shields can be in all kinds of crazy oldhammer Chaos colours.

24 unnecessarily gaudy orc archers done. I generally speaking hate the flocking stage, even if I never use anything else than PVA and my own flock mix, but I will have to get that done soon, also for the shielded melee orcs finished earlier.

My initial idea to create fancy shield transfers has proven more difficult than expected, especially as my traitor friend's printer is broken. 😠 So, back to something hand-painted with embossed designs, preferably less mainstream. 🙄
