We're thrilled to see the Government of Canada's $607.4M investment to advance the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence. Ending GBV takes sustained commitment, including continued investment in research, education, and survivor-centred supports, including for survivors of IPV-BI.

Myth: Brain injuries only happen if you’re knocked unconscious. Reality: Most brain injuries occur without loss of consciousness. IPV-related brain injuries can result from blows to the head, being slammed against objects, or strangulation. Recognition matters. It can change lives. #IPV #EndGBV

44% of women in Canada will experience intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lifetime. #IPV is a serious public health issue that can cause lasting, often unrecognized brain injuries. Recognizing the scale of the issue is the first step toward prevention, support, and informed care. #EndGBV

At SOAR, we recognize that Canada is part of Turtle Island and home to diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples whose cultures and knowledge have shaped this land for generations. This #CanadaDay, we reflect on our shared history and recommit to truth, reconciliation, equity, and healing.

Brain Injury Awareness Month is ending, but for survivors of IPV-BI, the effects of their injury don’t end with the flip of a calendar page. And neither does our work. We’ll continue to explore, educate, and empower—because survivors need recognition, informed care, and support all year long. #IPVBI

Today marks the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to honour First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, cultures, knowledge, and resilience. At SOAR, we remain committed to listening, learning, and working in partnership with Indigenous communities. #NIPD2026

SOAR supports BC Poverty Reduction's call for targeted income support for people fleeing intimate partner violence. Financial instability is one of the greatest barriers survivors face when trying to leave unsafe situations, and income support is a critical part of ensuring they can do so safely.

For many survivors of intimate partner violence, brain injury isn’t a one-time event. Repeated assaults and strangulation can cause lasting impacts. Brain Injury Awareness Month may be halfway through, but SOAR is just getting started. Because injury doesn’t end when awareness month does. #IPVBI

As many as 92% of women who experience intimate partner violence may also sustain a brain injury, yet many professionals still aren’t equipped to recognize and respond. We’re recruiting subject matter experts to help build Canada’s response to IPV-BI. 💜 📅 Apply by June 19 🔗 soarproject.ca/team
