Rather undedicated birder….First notable rare: Pine Bunting, Dagenham Chase 1992 and still plodding towards 400 in the UK! Often found pottering around Somersham & Colne area 🦉
The now seemingly resident Great egret at Somersham GP on breakfast catching duties this morning! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
Won’t be any award winning photos of the Long-tailed shrike at Eastleach Downs from me, but given I’d driven so close to the site when it was there before news was released, I felt it only right to go back and have a crack at seeing it today!
Hudsonian godwit today at Manningtree, Essex. A now very infrequent solo twitch ended well as the bird was initially the most distant and obscured of all the godwits….but then flew and fed alone and closer than any others!
How places can change. I travelled up to see the Red-necked stint on that field at Somersham GP in Sept 2001. As my adopted patch since 2009 I still live in hope that I can find a proper rare somewhere else on the site some day! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
Sussex Honey-buzzard nest camera is now LIVE. You can always find the live link (and previous days' recordings) at: www.youtube.com/playlist?lis... Enjoy this UK first for this incredible species!
The uncovering of the garden furniture produced a couple of absolute beauties! 🕷️ @robyaxley.bsky.social is that Zoropsis spinimana or something similar on the left? Gotta be a lifer for me that!
Nice trip out this afternoon for the Tundra bean and Russian white-fronted geese at Sutton North Fen. Didn’t even have to leave the car for the latter! Good number of Kestrels along the surrounding Droves @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
My sort of birding at the weekend. Poached eggs on toast and a black coffee on the go, Only Fools & Horses on the TV……and taking photos from the sofa!
Didn’t bother taking the scope (as usual) on a walk over Ouse washes, Earith yesterday. Nice Common buzzards in the bi-noc-u-lars and only checking a few photos where the zoom was straining did I realise one was sitting on prey! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding
Had to put me beer down and make a dash for the camera to grab record shots of this Raven passing over the garden in Somersham! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
Arranged weeks ago to go cycling around Grafham Water today and popped the camera in rucksack just in case there was a chance of a quick stop for photos of the Spotted sandpiper….got lucky! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
@robyaxley.bsky.social your sort of thing this innit?! No idea what they are and the wife says we’re certainly not trying that sort of thing!
This rather early Bee-eater shot past me at Old fall this morning. Nice start to the spring @flamboroughbird.bsky.social
Some Little owl hide-and-seek this afternoon in Somersham! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #camsbirds #UKbirding
