Lazy sunday sketching. Deinotherium and some funky bipedal apes in a watering hole somewhere in east africa #sciart
Working on describing new polacanthid ankylosaur species from the lower Yellow Cat, basal Cretaceous, Berriasian. Got to playing around with my ilia overview fig. and it got out of control... So I guess, I got a bit more done on our ankylosaur character appendix as well for #FossilFriday.
#FossilFriday I know today is not Friday but I can't wait to share it. Holotype of the "Shanshanosaurus huoyanshanensis", which is now a synonym of Tarbosaurus bataar. Photographed in Shanghai natural history museum by me. Noted the subcutaneous flange of the maxilla.
The very difference between Spinosaurus aegyptiacus and mirabilis is the chin process protruding beyond 1st dentary alveoli or not.
Finally we have Spinosaurus mirabilis Sereno et al. 2026 here
One day I shall return and complete this one -.-
Some more pics. Paint job was done by wnbb. It will be available in 1/35 and 1/18 scales.
Had the pleasure of making a sculpture of Sue the Tyrannosaurus rex for SHOWANNA Studio. 🦖 Pretty pleased with how this one turned out, I got to nerd out on all of her unique pathologies. The old girl lived a hard life!
happy #fossilfriday! this is postschizotherium, a rather strange hyrax that lived in the pliocene and early pleistocene of russia and china. weighing over half a tonne, recently described skull material indicates that it likely had an amphibious lifestyle like a hippo (art by @somniosa.bsky.social)
