9. In the US, we had about 50 participants from 20 states. About 35 of those participated in both scoring rounds (1 & 2) 10. In Canada, we had about 15 participants from 3 provinces. Only 8 of those participated fully in the scoring rounds (many others registered or contacted me to enquire) ⬇️

7. All the planning took place in the two months before the competition, so there wasn't much time for getting sponsors and promotion 8. Unfortunately, Round 1 was the same weekend as the National Puzzlers' League convention, so those attending couldn't participate in the Cryptic Championships ⬇️

5. Extra-C (non-profit) has had great success running the World Cryptic Crossword Championship (I attended last year in London), Indian Crossword League (IXL), A Clue A Day (ACAD), and school competitions across India 6. The US & Canada event is the first effort by its World Crossword Federation ⬇️

3. This was sort of a trial run for a free cryptic crossword competition in North America. The puzzles and solving went really well, but I know the registration form and the communications/support could be improved a lot 4. I hope we can do Cryptic Championships next year, bigger and better! ⬇️
