I think a lot about how Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled was so unabashedly unafraid to reference its' series rocky history they made literal GBA spinoff secret bosses playable and gave the Titans games skins but the Sonic racing game feels terrified at the idea of putting in Sonic characters
