“Scrape your knuckles, catch some tails.” ★ Footage from the 1996 Sonic the Hedgehog OVA, originally released in Japan as Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie. Animation produced by Studio Pierrot, directed by Kazunori Ikegami, circa 1996. - 🌸

“The Ultimate Compilation.” ★ Promotional artwork created for Sonic Jam on the SEGA Saturn, featuring Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in a bold, energetic composition designed to celebrate Sonic’s growing legacy during the mid-1990s. Illustration by Satoshi Okano, circa 1997. - 🌸

The piece was used across Japanese advertisements, magazine spreads, retail displays, and official SEGA promotional material surrounding the game’s release in 1997. The artwork reflects the franchise’s transitional period between the classic Genesis era and the emerging Dreamcast generation, blending familiar character designs with sharper proportions and more dynamic posing.

“The Adventure Begins!” ★ Original pencil sketch depicting Sonic the Hedgehog striking the now-iconic pose later used for key artwork and packaging of Sonic Adventure for the SEGA Dreamcast. Illustration by Yuji Uekawa, circa 1997-1998. - 🌸

Created during the late stages of the game’s promotional development, the illustration reflects Uekawa’s shift toward a sharper, more dynamic reinterpretation of Sonic’s design for the transition into the franchise’s modern era. The exaggerated hand perspective, flowing quill shapes, and energetic pose would become defining traits of Sonic’s redesigned appearance throughout the Dreamcast generation and beyond.
