#NerdfArters Day 17 prompt: "Andy Warhol Never Gets Old". (I tried out an open-source graphics editor named Krita, and judged this to be a genuine use case for something called a "Phong Bumpmap". I suppose I spent no seconds asking if I should before finding out if I could.) #DFTBA

A two-by-two Andy Warhol-style pop art grid repeating my 'Mecha John' image submission for Day 6 of the 5th annual NerdfArters challenge. There are four heavily textured, monochromatic panels: bright yellow (top left), vivid red (top right), cool blue (bottom left), and dark olive-bronze (bottom right). Each panel uses a 3D embossed relief effect that makes the plastic block character (with its tall block ears, large cartoon eyes, drawn mustache, wide open mouth, and block legs walking on a woven couch) look stamped into metal or canvas. The word "PIZZA" remains embossed in capital Comic Sans letters across the bottom of each quadrant.

#NerdfArters Day 16 prompt: "Zonderia". (Zonderia turns mundane background hums into rest for an overstimulated brain. Pressing my phone's camera to the bathroom privacy glass does the same to the neighbour's porch light, refracting a harsh night glare into a warm hum for the eyes.) #DFTBA

A horizontal abstract macro photograph taken at night by pressing a phone lens directly against textured bathroom privacy glass aimed at a neighbour's porch light. Instead of a harsh single bulb, the glass refracts the light in the center of a pitch-black frame into a glowing, intricate cluster of warm golden-amber ribbons, folded triangles, and curved fan-like shells. Each golden wave is striped with fine parallel ripple lines (optical caustics) and edged with tiny, shimmering rainbow bands of red, green, and blue diffraction. In the upper-left corner, a billowy, out-of-focus cloud of cool bluish-white light balances the warm center, while a fainter wisp of smoky grey drifts in the lower right, visually echoing how Zonderia scatters noise into a restful wash of ambient frequencies.

#NerdfArters Day 4 prompt: "Mola Cult", resulting in this outline for an original song. (I'm told they're learning about the "weird" time signatures in high school music this week. Me: "Did I mention my unironic enthusiasm for 5/4 time and rhyming couplets?") #DFTBA

Draft for a musical score titled "Mola Mola" (NerdfArters Prompt Day 4) by Ryan Marttala (2026). Notated in treble clef, D major, 5/4 time, tempo marked "Playful".
Refrain (measures 1–5):
"The Mola Cult still plays in weird and ancient ways; the Mola Cult still plays its weird and ancient ways."
Verses (measures 6–17, repeated melody):
Verse 1: "The mola drops below where colder waters flow, / and flaps its fins to steer across the dark frontier, / to swallow drifting prey shut out from light and day, / and turn the jellies straight to tons of living weight."
Verse 2: "When cold begins to bite, it swims toward the light, / then rises back to lie flat out beneath the sky, / to soak the midday heat that makes the round complete. / With warmth throughout its core, it hunts the deep once more."
Verse 3: "Three hundred million start and scatter far apart, / as tiny, spiky young drift out and float among / the open swells to feed and grow with rapid speed, / inflating ton by ton to bask beneath the sun."

#NerdfArters Day 3 prompt: "Comma," with a little, original rhyme. (We shouted "Good morning, Hank! It's Tuesday!" and picked up our copies of "Hollywood, Ending" on a day-trip adventure to John Green's book tour and the CN Tower. Now I'm about halfway through the novel.) #DFTBA

A pencil sketch on green paper of an open film clapperboard centered within a diagonal shaft of sunlight, flanked by deep shadows. A large, stylized comma is drawn as the hinge for the clapper sticks. On the slate is an original six-line poem: "The comma does not end / the telling, but will bend / the clause to let it lean / ahead into the scene, / compelling threads to stay / in motion as they play,". Faint shadow spots mottle the illuminated area (caused by our bird window collision prevention squares).
