I write about space, in several places. Used to write about other stuff? But now pretty much it's space. I also talk about gaming here, though. Also politics, sadly and mostly unwillingly, but I do try to damp it down a bit

Remember as your eyes burn from the smoke today, Ken Sim and ABC voted to allow fracked gas in new builds, cancelled $8 million in climate retrofit grants; voted against funding for cooling kits for people in the Downtown Eastside; and got rid of the climate justice charter.

This is really valuable because it gets to the central issue with the dudes who love code generation: they don't want the product, they just want the clout. They're a new version of those insufferable poseurs who don't want to make art, but just want to be SEEN as an artist. Lots of those here.

Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

Generative AI psychosis and delusion is a real thing, as is the degradation of analytical skills. This increasingly makes conversations difficult with those who have "converted" to using it. Along with the clickbait-ification of everything and the adoption of predatory logarithms. Stay vigilant.

www.gofundme.com/f/fund-expen... Hey! We have the last Aerosmith: Quest For Fame in the world. We're trying to crowdfund to cover the expenses to preserve it. This is a unique piece of rhythm game history, and we plan to place it in a public arcade! Any support would be wildly appreciated!

The most infuriating thing about this shit is how it gets completely fucking blanked by every single "media studies expert" you see on this website Say what you will about debatebro culture, this whole Westworld robot "I see nothing there" behavior is turning out to be so much worse

The Missouri Attorney General is threatening librarians with arrest over an LGBTQ+ story hour for kids, suggesting that a picture book about gay dinosaur dads is "pornography." The Secretary of State says he'll pull funding if the event happens, citing the state's new age verification law.

Boone Regional Library in Columbia is hosting a “queer-led story time” directed to toddlers and preschoolers, with time to “meet new friends” afterwards.

We’ve sent a notice to the library reminding them that providing pornography or sexual material to minors is against Missouri law.

Catching up on Deltarune and a minor plot point is "oh who would even want this old television" My brother, that is an immaculately maintained cathode ray tube, there would be a line out the goddamn door

This was and is the consequence of "most people will be fine" responses to covid that carefully left out what happens if you aren't part of "most people". Like, sorry, but almost everything in 2020s politics is downstream of the wholeass plague that started it. Blank it and you're useless.

Not a big fan of the "sick, elderly and/or disabled people don't count" discourse that appears to follow public health disasters these days.

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

More than 80% of kids still using social media despite ban, new eSafety report finds

The report provides more evidence Australia’s world-leading social media ban isn’t going to plan.

"But it's actually just a tax on the owners!" yes that's the idea If you own a business in a particular jurisdiction you are very literally profiting from its laws and services and protections, even if you do not personally live there Paying for all of those things from those profits makes sense

The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.

Me: "Snez is dropping in around a week, might as well try out this stellarconduct thing, oh well off to Inazuma I need handguards" "Oh there's one now" *Some poor ghost samurai is reduced to leptons in seconds* "...uh what the fuck just happened"

Not going to link for obvious reasons, Other Site, but allegedly an Ekos poll has the NDP up to 20, due mostly to progressives fleeing the LPC Apparently not keen on Carney's agenda of "fuck your wildfires, export more tar slurry and import more tanks to defend the tar slurry"

So the Dems' instinct on everything is to try to change the subject to topics that they're more confident in and poll better on But this is what fucking happens when they change the subject. On LGBTQ people, on civil rights, on foreign policy, on ANYTHING. Change the subject and psychopaths win.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

The funny thing about the ChatGPT freakouts over "virtual girlfriends" and such is that Claude is as bad as ChatGPT ever was, but Anthropic just doesn't seem to give a shit And since it's pundits and professionals getting hooked, they aren't calling it out because it's THEIR chatbot buddy too

I’ve seen a lot of my colleagues’ interactions with Claude working on research problems & it would be easier for me to accept it as a serious scientific tool if it didn’t end every single response with the LLM equivalent of “you want fries with that?” — constantly trying to goad you into asking more

Got overly tired and mixed up which Deltarune slot was Normal Route and which one was Weird Route, fuck Actually I have no clue whether chapter 3 is part of the "weird route" per se but things got pretty dang weird out of the blue
