A big thanks to the organisers of #PaPE2025 for putting together a great conference on the stunning island of #Mallorca @uib.cat! Within a satellite workshop on #multimodality, Lena Pagel was able to present our latest work on the role of continuous head movements in the encoding of focus structure.
Speech Dynamics Lab

Lab at the @unicologne.bsky.social as part of the @ifl-phonetik.bsky.social and the CRC1252. We work on the dynamical modelling of speech and co-speech gestures.
CONGRATULATIONS for this wonderful habilitation to @annehermes.bsky.social in Paris @lppparis.bsky.social! 🥳
As part of the #ViTraLiP transnational course, our virtual guest was @samkirkham.bsky.social from Lancaster University. During our exchange in #Paris, we were able to attend his talk at the #SRPP colloquium. Thanks to @lppparis.bsky.social for inviting us! Read more here: tinyurl.com/vitralip.
We are happy to report that last semester's #ViTraLiP (Virtual Transnational Linguistic Project) co-operative Master seminar between @unicologne.bsky.social and @upcite.bsky.social was a great success! We particularly enjoyed our exchange in #Paris - find out more here: tinyurl.com/vitralip.
We're happy to have Lyle Tadmor join our lab! In her PhD work, Lyle investigates #articulatory and #respiratory coordination, to gain insight into #aging and #Parkinson's Disease. She is supervised by Michael Barbe (@uniklinikkoeln.bsky.social, neurology) and Doris Mücke (@unicologne.bsky.social).
Welcome to the lab, Erik Morris! Supervised by Doris Mücke in Cologne (@unicologne.bsky.social) and Ioana Chitoran and Hi-Yon Yoo in Paris (@upcite.bsky.social), Erik is working on #dialect exposure and speaker variability in L2 acquisition, investigating segmental and prosodic features of #Greek.
We're thrilled to welcome two new PhD students to our #SpeeDyLab group! 🥳 Lyle Tadmor and Erik Morris were awarded scholarships by the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School of the Humanities in Cologne, and have started to work on their projects in April. Great to have you on board!
The Offermann-Hergarten Foundation has awarded the 2024 Offermann-Hergarten Prize to @tabeathies.bsky.social and @aviadalbert.bsky.social for their dissertations honoring outstanding young researchers at the University of Cologne's Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Congrats! 🎉
Cheers to 10 incredible years of collaboration, discovery, and growth! 🎉 In October, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our research network "Brain Modulation and Speech Motor Control". We’re proud of how far we’ve come! #10YearsStrong #ResearchCommunity #anniversary
Yesterday, Justine Mertz was invited to present her work on sign language coarticulation in the Phonology Colloquium at Goethe Universität Frankfurt. She was super excited to present the new results obtained with Lena Pagel, Doris Mücke and Giusy Turco, and they shared her enthusiasm! 🤗
🚨 New Paper Alert! 🚨 Lena Pagel, Simon Roessig and Doris Mücke just published a paper in #LabPhon on articulatory signatures of prosodic prominence in habitual and loud speech. Check it out here: journal-labphon.org/article/id/1...!
